I am trying to convert a .avi file using TMPGEnc, but when it gets half-way through, the video freezes. It continues to convert, but when finished, the video plays normally until about halfway through, then it is stuck on one image while the elapsed time counter still ticks away. If anyone can help me with this problem, i would really appreciate it.

P.S.
If this is the wrong board, just let me know and i will move it. Thanks.

There are a Coule of things you can try, First try this ,Go to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "vfapi Plugins" and raise the Priority of the "Direct Show" to "2", this will sometimes help with this Problem...Another thing you can do is Download something like "Divx Fix" or "DivX Anti-Freeze" and try to fix your Files because this Problem is sometimes caused by an error in the AVI file, and Lastly I would see if Virtual dub could read the whole movie from beginning to end then if it does I would use it to Frame serve the File to TMPGEnc to encode to Mpeg...If the other things don"t work then let me know and I"ll explain how to Frameserve with virtual dub...Cheers

I appreciate your help. I had previously tried raising the priority to 1, but that didn't work, so i'll try 2.

The movie seems to play fine, so i don't think it is a problem with the file, but i could be wrong.

Trying to do another movie (i swear, i never had problems in the past), it came out with no sound. Really starting to bother me now.

Use different software to convert the file like Nero Vision Express which will convert AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD.

Well I"m glad it worked, I guess there was a Frozen frame in your AVI file, and thank goodness you didn"t use Nero vision express cuz it is one of the the worst quality encoders ever....Cheers

I'm having another problem, so hopefully you can help me.

I tried to convert this AVI movie, but when it finished, there was no sound. So, i changed the priority on the {whatever it is} to 2. I tried it again, and at the half way point, an error message came up (no description, just an error). So, i tried the Divx fix, with the priority at 2, and the same thing. I haven't tried the fixed version with the priority at default (-1), that's the next step. Please help me AGAIN if you can.

Well if you can get it to convert without sound then do it because the Problem with no sound is easilly fixed...The reson why you got no audio is Probably because the audio in your AVI file is on a Format that is not supported By TMPGEnc...If the audio is VBR Mp3 or AC3 then TMPGEnc can not decode it so you would need to extract the audio from the AVI file to Wav format and use the Wav file as the audio source in Tmpgnec...You can extract the audio to Wav Pretty easilly if you use Virtual dub...Cheers

You could also use DVD2AVI to decode the audio as this program can decode AC3 to wav.

Once this is done, just feed the wav into TMPGEnc and hey-presto!

To extract the audio with Virtual Dub you First load your File into V-Dub...Then under "Audio" set it to "Full proscessing Mode" then under "Compression" set it to "None" now go to "file" to "Save Wav" and give the File and name and in a couple minutes you will have a wav audio file that you load into TMPGEnc as the Audio and Load your AVI file in as the Video and now you should have audio in your mpeg file...But if your Audio in the AVI file is AC3 Format you will need to install a AC3 decoder before you can extract the audio ,it can be downloaded here: http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/AC3ACM.zip ....Cheers

Well, another problem. I'm sorry for having so many problems, but hey, that's what you guys are here for, right?

Anyway, i installed the AC3 ACM just in case. But, when i try to rip the audio, it tells me a parameter is wrong. That's all it says, "Can't save the file: Parameter is wrong". Would appreciate your help once again.

If the audio in your AVI file is AC3 then you probably will not need to extract the audio Because TMPGEnc can use the AC3-ACM Decoder to decode the Audio...But if it can"t then e-mail me and I"ll send you a Little tool that will turn your AVI with Compressed audio to an AVI with Uncompressed Audio which TMPGEnc will be able to Decode...Hope this helps..Cheers
