I have a number of avi files at 23fps and have had no luck in coverting them to anything that plays without sound or video probs. I figure there must be software somewhere that can convert to 29fps? If thats the right way to go about it?
You Don"t want 29.97fps That is the NTSC Frame Rate, what you want is 25fps PAL...I suppose you are Talking about converting them to Mpeg so you can make a VCD/SVCD or DVD??? what I usually do Is use a Good Quality Video editor like Premier Pro or Vegas Video 4 to Render My file to the correct frame rate in either AVI or Mpeg format or any format you wish, Most other methods are too difficult or just a Bit of a Hassle and Most encoders do not properly convert Framerates..If you need a Good Quality editing Program message me with your e-mail and I"ll try to help you out...Cheers
Many thanks for the advice and yes I am trying to convert for burning to DVD/SVCD (I did another "Doh!" after posting when I realised that 25fps is the right number....Doh!). Its a war out there!
I'll try Premier Pro as you suggest most of the other methods appear to be way too complex
Trying Vegas 4. It comes up with an "error opening codec" when I load the AVI file I want to convert. It starts anyway but the vid/audio is out of synch. I guess there is something I am missing here?
The One Other method for Converting 23.97fps to 25fps is to use a Simple Program called "AVI Frame rate changer" and you will need an audio editor like "GoldWave", what you do is use the "AVI Frame Rate Changer" to change the Frame rate to 25fps but this will Make the Video Shorter because there are More Frames per Second, so what you do is Load the AVI file into Virtual Dub and go to "File" to "File Information" and check the Length of the Video file and write it down exactly, Now you will need to extract the audio from the AVI file to Wav format...After you have the wav audio you will need to load it into an audio editor like "GoldWave" and use the Time stretch feature to change the length of the Audio file to the exact same length as the Video file which you wrote down, after the audio and Video files are the same length you just Mux the 2 files together and it should be in total Sync and at 25fps...You can also use Vegas video to Change the audio length...If you don"t want to try this method and still want to try the other method but can"t get Vegas Video 4 to open the File then you can also use a Program like "Ulead Media Studio Pro 7" which can be found on the net if you know were to look....The Last method I would use which is really slow is to use an encoder called "Canopus procoder" to convert the 23.97fps AVI file into a 25fps Mpeg file, this Program does good NTSC/Pal conversions but it"s encodeing takes a Long time but the Quality is good but it is also hard to find...well good Luck...Cheers
Lots of choices indeed. It seems a bit of a "black" art and its fair to say that there are probably as many methods as there are people posting. Downloaded and paid, yea I know shocking, Cucusoft AVI to***** Pro for £19. The company got a roasting elsewhere here but I have just converted 2 files one from AVI to SVCD and the other to DVD without any problems. Took a lifetime 8 hours for the SVCD and 14 for the DVD but the results are great and both work fine. Annoying thing is that when I tried to change the SVCD MPEG to 16:9 in ULEAD to burn the split files then exceeded the CD limit. Perhaps best to convert first?
If you have a Fairly Fast PC I can hook you up with a Real Mpeg encoder, not some Evil Crap Like Cucusoft..I can hook you up with one called MainConcept Encoder 1.4, it will encode your Files at Faster than real time if you have at least a 2ghz PC, so it might only take 1.5 hours to encode 2 hours of AVI to Mpeg, and it is a Very High Quality encoder and it"s Pal/NTSC conversion isn"t to bad...message me if you want it..Cheers
well ive had more than enough of my share of frame rate conversion trouble! I have been trying to convert a 23fps divx movie into 25fps PAL dvd format. The movie plays fine as a divx, but when converted to mpeg2 25fps, the movie is fine, but the sound is out of sync! baaah!! ive tried many different encoders, including mainconcept1.4, Cucusoft's AVI Pro, TMPGEnc PLus but they all have similar results. Ive even tried ripping out the audio (so as to convert it with goldwave/besweet/cooleditpro) and then multiplexing it with the video, but again, its out of sync. :-( wat could be wrong ? im about to give up on this one.
Converting Frame Rates with AVI files can be a Bit Tricky But I have had good results useing AVI Frame Rate converter and Golgwave..The AVI Frame Rate converter will change the Frame Rate for you but this will also change the Length of the AVI Video file so the Audio needs to be Stretched/Shrunk to the length of the Video ,This is were Goldwave comes it ,It has a Feature called "Time Warp" that allows you to change the Length of the audio file by stretching or shrinking it, so you use it to change the audio to the exact length of the Video and then Mux the new Audio with the Video together and it should be in Sync, This all can be done without Re-encodeing the Video....Cheers
