I've installed a Wiikey, but I cannot get backups nor the Wiikey setup disc to work. I've checked resistance between the wiikey solder points and the DVD drive's main chip, and the connections all look good. I assume, therefore, that I either got a fake Wiikey (but I bought it from a retailer listed as reputable), or I'm burning the discs incorrectly.
Would it be possible for someone to send me a known-to-be-working setup disc (for the US), or let me send you a disc and you can tell me if it works?
If so, please write a quick "ok" email on this thread and then pm me and we can figure out how to swap the disc. I'm in the SF Bay Area, if someone wanted to meet up locally, though regular US mail is probably better.
sounds like your not burning correctly. Get IMG burn and burn it through that, make sure you have the right dvds as well since only DVD - R works, and even some makes of those don't work, firstly what make are you using, i am using sony ones and they work fine. Also make sure your burning at 4x and nothing else
great, thanks, will try with ImgBurn. I was using Nero with Memorex DVD-R media @ 2x speed (but on an old burner that only goes to 4x). Anyway, will try ImgBurn. can't hurt.

I used a Memorex 16X DVD+R for the setup disc and it works. I also use Verbatim 8X DVD+R for all of my backups and they work.
Still no success, using ImgBurn. If anyone's willing to either test a Wiikey setup disc that I've burned, or send me one that's known to work, I'd appreciate it. I suspect now that my wiikey chip is damaged / blank / fake. :(
Get different dvd-r that seems to be the problem i'm sure, get verbitrom or something, check threads for the best discs, and no ones gonna take a disk and test it >_>
There could be allot of reasons why your Wiikey is not working properly.
What size is the Wiikey setup disc ISO your trying to burn? It should be 4.37 GB (4,699,979,776 bytes} if the ISO is not that size then your not creating the Setup disc correctly.
What firmware do you have installed on your Wii? If you have the newest 3.0 then the Wiikey setup disc will not boot anymore on your Wii. You will need to use a GCoS boot disc in order to run the Wiikey Setup disc.
Did you make sure you had a D2B chipset or lower in your Wii? If you have a D2C chipset in your Wii then the Wiikey is not compatible with that chipset. If you have a D2B chipset make sure you don't have 1 that has the legs cut from the chip itself. If the legs are cut then you will need to solder to the cut legs.
Just wanted to give you a few other possible problems that could cause this issue.
