Hi guys, I am new. I just copied Ice age, robots, and katt williams live on tdk disc. I used ripit4me and dvd shrink and all went smoothly with NO error messages. I tried to play my back up from front to back and three times in a row my backup cuts off unplayable in the middle or near end of the movie and I know its not because of space because I took out the menues ans extras.
Any idea why ripit4me and dvd shrink copied a movie that just wont play? During analysing phase I saw the credits so i have no clue why the finished backup wont play???

First off, TDK's are JUST ok media, best if you got Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. The problem would almost be entirely due to burning speed. Burn at 4X or 8X MAXIMUM. Try the same files again with the suggested burn speeds, and see how you go.

There is a common misconception that Shrink will burn... well it doesn't. It will use Nero or ImgBurn or another of your choice. Nero may come pre installed on your machine or you can get ImgBurn for FREE. Browse through the settings of the software you use and adjust accordingly. If you need more help then please post back.

I must sound like n idiot.lol I dont have nero on this computer or imgburn. All I know is my computer does burn. I will try to look at my settings. In both ice age and robots the hardcopy played great until the very last scenes. This is weird. I mean 3 movies in a row. Thanks for trying to help me.

NO your NOT an idiot at all, it's that you are unsure of what software that is doing the burning for you. (we ALL start some where)
Do your self a favour, goto START then CONTROL PANEL then ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS and look through the LIST for names like AHEAD or AHEAD SOFTWARE or SONIC and other names of programs that you are not certain of. DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING OK? just look. Post back with any names of programs that might fit the bill. We will get there soon enough. Help is what we do...... :)

PS my fourth movie hard copy failed to work. Maybe the problem is these dvds are from my collection and are old. Who knows.
But I saw no programs like you mentioned in my programs folder.
I do see however roxio creator audio, muvee autoproducer 5.0, and roxio mydvd basic v9
Any of those programs sound right for me to inspect and change burn settings?

So Roxio is your burning software, and I wish I could help with it's settings....but can't as I don't have it. As mentioned before, open up Roxio and search through the settings. Howd you go?

lol All I know is i followed your simple instructions to find the programs menu.
Now I notice my roxio has 3 programs. 1. creator basic 2. express labeler 3. my dvd basic 9.
What i am clueless about is how to find which programs that sets my burn speed.
PS I have done this successfully for about 15-20 movies. But the last two days I am 0-4. Are you sure its the burn settings or blank media?

As mentioned it can be both. I suspect it really comes down to burn speed in this instance. TDK's may not be top notch media, but will give good reults with care. You say that you have had good results for a time, what has changed between then and now?
Have you installed any software since? Have you tried using System Restore? Go back a little further than when you noticed the problem.
All we need now is a member that knows how to adjust the burn speeds in roxio.

Well I just bought this hp computer and was getting blue screens. I restored it back to its original setting 7 hours ago. Since then I have been 1-5. so i did 1 right the failed on 4 straight. PS while chatting I downloaded nero will that help us?

Ahh the plot thickens. Short answer is NO. Don't get Nero, just take the machine back for repairs, and YES it's a pain in the a$$ but this could be the best way to straighten out these problems and others that might follow. Blue screens are not a good omen. Make sure that when you get it back that your Anti Virus software is up to date also.

That might be a problem. I bought the computer in march and just started using the dvd decryptpor/ripit4me/dvd shrink software these last 2 weeks. All my burns went fine until this recent computer return to original settings. I really think its the burn speed. My logs say its burning at max. that cant be good. currently nothing wrong with computer accept I cant copy my movies with it. hard to say that to the best buy geek squad.

Don't forget to backup your data to another "outside source". Perhaps you can get access to an extenal drive (beg, borrow but don't steal) to save it all too? If not don't expect it to be there after the fix.
Secondly, PLAY dumb. When it comes to warrantys, admit nothin' hehehe. The faster you hand it back, the faster you'll be back!
Hopefully you'll get your machine back in tip top condition, and if you save this link or start another it's up to you, we can help out with all sorts of software and guides. So you might be off air for a short while, but we'll see you on the better side of these probs shall we?

before i take this back please tell me how USING NERO lol can I change the burn settings. I am bent on trying that solution before losing this computer for 3 weeks and all my saved info.
I notice dvd shrink says nero is the burning software but I never see nero logo when burning. I see DVD DECRYPTOR boxes. How do I change the burn settings on nero. lets try that first before taking the computer in please.

To change the burning preferance with Shrink, First off change the specs see pic below...
Depending on which version of nero you choose it should be under Nero info tool.
PS: Don't forget to restart your PC AFTER the download and install ok?

Don't mean to butt in-just have a couple of comments.
Most people that try running Roxio and Nero on the same machine
end up with awful conflicts. There are a few who have managed it
but they are very advanced in their knowledge.
What operating system are you running? If its Vista, that is another
problem because the new DRM in Vista is causing a lot of headaches.
If you are running XP, I would suggest not using Nero. Download
Imgburn which is a free program. It is one of the simplest to use.

At this link is a download and a step by step very easy guide to
using it. I have used TDK media with it and had not one coaster.
If you want to reset the speed of burn in Roxio, I would suggest
you go to help on your machine and type in DVD burn speed. It
should bring up an explanation.

shardel-Thanks for chiming in. Also thanks onya. I went to roxio help menu and typed burn speed and could find nothing. I notice when I put a blank dvd in my burner an opton comes up asking me what to I want to burn the dvd with either windows media player or windows dvd maker. since media player is the default I changed the burn speed in that to slow.
Guys help me understand something. Why do you guys keep saying nero or something else is burning. I literally am looking at my computer right now and dvd decryptor is burning my movie (which will likely not play,lol) and I see nothing or no program with the logo nero or the other software programs burning anything.
I mean nero just got installed yesterday and you guys told me to check the burn to nero box. Guess what, it was already checked since I started burning movies weeks ago. So what was burning the movies if decryptor wasnt?

yes, dvd decrypter can auto-burn with shrink, so can nero, so can IMGburn (with help).
and im guessing thats what has been burning your dvd since roxio doesn't auto-burn with shrink.
you can select different burning options in shrink like th epic shows
you should show ISO Image File and burn with dvd Decrypter
BTW, i think it might be the blank media you are using, but it would be more helpful if you could list the brand and model number of your burner, plus the firmware. you can find this using decrpter look at pic

you have to have nero installed, plus when you hit the BACKUP button you have to chose BURN with NERO(look at the first pic) along with the box checked like onya showed.

300 bowler thanks for confirming my observation. I knew decryptor was burning something. so how do I change the burn speed in decryptor? PS I downloaded imgburn and it asked me if I wanted to replace decrptor. I said no because I first want to change the burn speed on the decrptor to see if that works.
I do see burn settings when I click backup dvd on shrink. But it only asked me what volume label I want. I dont see anything asking about burn speed.
I have tried looking under the setting of dvd decrptor and I see several options including i/o device registry file mode ifo mode and iso mode and others. None of them let me see an area to change burn speed.
I really cant see how my media is the problem because I have used tdk of imation disc since i started burning. I now have failed 9 times in a row and each time decryptor successfully burns a copy but that copy is no good. It has to be the burn speed.

By the way 300 bowler. I went to decrptor and found a write speed option. I have been burning at 50 something x. I took it down to 4x and this time after analyzing it gave me this exact message.
Device IO control (FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME ) FAILED!
Device [000]_NEC DVD_RW nd-3550a 1 go (f) usb
Unable to lock volume for exclusive access
Reason Access Denied
then it gave me 3 options
ABORT RETRY IGNORE
I clicked retry and it failed so I clicked abort.
In the past I hit ignore and the hard disc was flawed.

By changing the write speed on decryptor to 4x instead of 50 something x I SUCCEEDED in copying the movie. It feels great to have tried something instead of sending this back to best buy. I work at home so my computer is like air and water to me and being without one for 3 weeks is impossible.
Thanks guys for helping and I hope I can help you all out with some type of problem related to computers.
