Hello to all. First time poster, looooong time lurker.
I asked a pro modder about getting a wiikey installed and he prompted me with a disclaimer that sometimes, the wii just won't accept a modchip.
I have never seen such a claim before, on this site, or on any other sites.
Can anyone out there please confirm or refute this? No disrespect meant to the modder... like I said, I have just never heard this before so I want to get other opinions on the matter.

I don't think this is true. Every Wii console have similar components, and they are all moddable. We're talking about deterministic electronics, so there are no such things as a Wii that 'refuses a modification'.
That being said, there are Wiis that seems to be more picky in terms of media it will accepts. Gamecubes were known to be very sensible to different media too. This is likely due to the DVD drive potentiometer (or pot, for short). I've heard about people who were able to adjust the pot to make the Wii accept more media, but this is unnecessary most of the time.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. He and I were discussing the D2B chipset.
All D2Bs are moddable. I was just correcting MentalRays post in case anyone browsing through got the wrong idea. There's already enough mis-information about the Wii floating about.

You're right. The way I read the OP, it sounded like some Wiis were not moddable even though they have the same components as a moddable one. Sorry for the misinformation.

I'm sorry to said this, but i think you modder didn't like to risk installing D2B chipset. This chipset required more skilled and worked and it seem he's not too skillful in modding it.
