Hello people. TIA for any and all help you can provide. I recently bought my son a used psp. It had firmware 2.82 when I got it, but he updated it to 3.30 without knowing any better. I have looked through many threads trying to find out wtf to do. I have read about custom firmwares and checked out www.psp-hacks.com trying to figure this out myself, but I'm not having much luck. I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to mods with consoles, and how to back up the games, but I'm feeling a bit retarded with this psp. BTW I bought a 4g Sony Memory Stick to go with it. I hate to ask for so much, but can someone please post some links to relevant 3.30 custom firmware topics, how to load custom firmware, and tut on how to load .iso to Memory Stick and launch. Is 3.03 OE-A the newest custom firmware released for 3.30? Thanks.

Hello again. I downgraded to 1.50 no problem. It took me a couple of weeks to find the time, but the downgrade itself was quite straight forward. Thanks to those who replied. My next question is... can I reformat my psp's memory stick now? I am searching for threads on how to load games from memory stick next. Thanks again.

I did my reformat after I had the new firmware. I can't remember if it matters though, but I think it does..

kk I am going to reformat as this was my inclination anyway, but I have another question. I have looked through the guides, but I don't know what I'm looking for. I am trying to launch game back-ups off mem stick, but I am unclear which method I should be using. DevHook? FastLoader? something else? Can someone please clarify a bit. I think I'm right on the verge of completing this task...I just need a bit of direction. Thanks again ladies and gents for all the input.

i've been doing some reading, and man is there tons of reading for the psp. I am wondering if downgrading to the 1.5 was the best move for me. I have finally got the umd emulator installed and working, and didn't realize i was going to have to use it along with devhook. so i started searching threads on devhook only to discover there are many versions. Now some threads even said devhook is out of date cause new custom firmwares will play even new games and don't need the use of devhook. I have lots of psp "back-ups" and i'm just looking for the simplest way to launch the most psp .iso files.
*Is there a compatability list some where for games and firmware 1.50 and devhook versions?
*Should i just update to a custom firmware such as 3.53 M33-4 ?
*Do I even have a clue wtf I am talking about or am i way off base?
TIA

Thanks that is some help for sure.
I have started by getting both Custom Firmware 3.52 M33, and Custom Firmware 3.52 M33 Update #4. The nfo is a bit confusing at first, but I am about to search this site for a tut on installing both the firmware and update. Any links would be welcomed ;)
Thanks again. This area has been hard to get help with. I have been backing-up console games for years, and I've never had to do so much reading, and had so many choices. Normally you read till you decide on a modchip, order it, install it done (having to rebuild the odd game). I was starting to think I'd made a mistake messing with the firmware, but I have renewed hope again.

Thanks people. I was going to link to this tut here, but it only shows how to install 3.52 M33 +update #4. Which btw I have completed successfully, and I am about to attempt to launch my first .iso when done this post.
I might want to upgrade to 3.71, but I will see how this firmware works first. I do have new games that might not boot unless using 3.71 I think. Can anyone offer any comments on what the pros/cons might be of 3.71?
Thanks again.

Pros: Erm, it's 0.19 higher than 3.52?
Cons: Quite a few actually, lower homebrew support, no custom themes (And i mean our meaning of the word custom, not sony custom), lower PRX support.
To sum it up: Don't upgrade, to be honest i would doubt there are any 3.71 games out there, as thus far there are still only a couple of games that require 3.52 to run.
I've tried 3.71 M33 and personally i can tell you 3.52 M33 is better :)
