Ok i know you might think this is a bit weird but it actually worked for my friend:He was banned for playing backup games just after the spring update and he's been banned ever since then up till now.About 2 days ago he went out and bought a new harddrive and put it on his banned console. He then recovered his gamertag to find out that he could now re-connect to xbox live! Im not saying this will work for everyone because i dont know but it worked 100% for my friend. Hope this helps people get un-banned!

Not Possible.

If he put it on another hard drive, it wont work on that xbox360 because the MAC Address is banned, but your gamertag on another HDD will connect to live thru another xbox360.

id try this, but no guarantee, it wont work. I have 2 HDD's so its not impossible, hes either bs'ing you or making it up, unless u saw the thing happening.

well, lets see if others can do this. I cant try it because im at work, but thats good if he can connect to live again, but still the BANNAGE is thru the mac address and it cant be unbanned thru that.

i don't believe it's the MAC adress, because if it was, it's way too easy to get unbanned. but here's a link on how to change your MAC on the 360 just incase anyone wants to experiment. http://kb.resnet.purdue.edu/viewarticle.php?articleid=1130

don't believe it? look in the URL, it's from purdue university. i think it can be trusted

no, i'm saying i don't believe that will get you unbanned, simply because that would be too easy. i have not tried it though, since i have never been banned. would somebody with a banned console like to try it?

since we're in an unbanning thread, how FOR SURE can you get unbanned? for future reference.

I just looked into that link, it looks to easy to do it, but that its from 2006.. so it may work or may not work, ill ask on another xbox modding site and see if others want to experiment with it.

its no good, no use.

I tried it with the same mac on my computer and used the wired connections, it goes thru but then xbox live says failed.

move on, this no good.

edit - i was reading thru it again and it states i must be registered with regnet, but i dont see an signup option for me to give this a shot.

[ what it states - Remember you must register your computer with ResNet before trying to connect your Xbox360.]

so basically, its for students or such thru resnet, so how the hell are we gonna get this to work if were not part of it.

if m$ are clever enough to fool us all how to get round it for this long, they would not leave it open to such a simple workaround.

Ive tried the change mac thru that link tutorial - U MUST BE REGISTERED WITH RESNET to get this done, so that one process is a "FAIL"

Ive tried the new hard drive method - xbox live still fails.

so basically, this trick is no good to others.

Either Your friend lied to you by saying he used a new hdd n connected it, more likely he bought a new 360 n connected to live thru it.

If you say you saw it in person and saw it happening, then good; its not working at all.

Otherwise, good luck everyone who can get this to work.

Right now im waiting for my 2nd unbanned 360 to return back from microsoft, damn overheating issues and hardware issues.

Here's a question, if people are saying that it bans you by mac address what if you play ur xbox360 using a wireless adapter, then if you get banned you could then use another adapter and obviously this would be a different MAC address. I suspect M$ have thought of this and probably ban the box using a system number or motherboard number

unless you could somehow disable your regular ethernet card's MAC address, live may be able to detect it. That's something to try though...

Why would they ban based on your mac when that can be changed. Its should be pretty obvious that they ban based on serial #. It would be just as easy to ban based on the serial # the system is reporting rather than the mac address. M$ are no dummeez. Can you change your serial#? (whats it reporting as your serial # anyways) Not sure about that. But if you did then you would most likley need a serial# that is already not in use or if they start seeing multiple units with the same serial they all would get banned also. Like multiple product keys. Just a few thoughts on it.

if im not mistaken, you cant change your MAC address. All you can do is provide a second, or alternate, MAC address which defeats the purpose of getting rid of your original MAC address. If it is still there, microsoft will recognize the original MAC still. Am i right?

wouldnt be easier and cheaper to just buy another gold membership on ebay and use a new email address and create a new gamertag? Or does the ban reconize the whole console?

PS3...it only does everything(that Sony allows it to)

Well if you do that, it still wont work because the console itself is banned for "LIVE" On that console.
