Do i have to use a Microsoft network adapter to go wireless or is their any other method?

I've not ever tried to use a non microsoft wireless adapter to go on live, as it will have driver deficiency and most likely will not work, if ou have one you can try it, otherwise I would recommend you use the official adapter, there are no third party wireless adapters out for the 360 that are near enough to be just like the official version.

i use a Linksys WGA54G Wireless-G Game Adapter and it works fine for me

If you have a wireless laptop you could connect that to your router and use internet connection sharing to connect it wired to your 360 to play on live
