Your box has been shipped with only FTA firmware loaded, to view all channels please follow these instructions.
All you need can be found in Eamos FTA Library link at the end of my post. For the box you need firmware Version 4.51 for the UK, (Found in "The Box" Firmware folder). You also need the Gtromloader,(Found in Starview Software folder). You will find a full guide in the Starview Documentation folder called Starview Guide PDF. This will show you how to flash your box.
You will also need a null modem cable similar to this:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=L71BT&DOY=2m6
If you only have a laptop, more than likely it will not have a D9 serial port and you will also need a USB serial port adapter to use in conjunction with the null modem cable.
USB Adapter Cable http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?Modu...DOY=17m6&tabs=n
These are only for reference and can be purchased much cheaper on fleabay.

As stated above it is for dowloading between your box and the pc. The Starview guide will show you exactly how to flash your box with all the info I have provided above.

It soulds like the rs232 cable , you can try it again to see if it works , But you need the correct NULL MODEM CABLE as that has a crossover config

Have you tried other com ports? A multimeter is an electrical test device you can use it to check the pin out spec of your cable.
