I have a Toshiba laptop (Tecra 8100) with a DVD-ROM player. The system recognizes the DVD player and says it is operational. When I put a CD or DVD in it, it recognizes which format the disk is. But when I try to play, search, explore or open the disk, I get a window that says "Please insert disk into Drive D:." (drive D: is the DVD-ROM drive). Since the drive has obviously read at least part of the disk and the computer recognized the format, why am I getting this message?

Right Click 'My Computer' > 'Properties' > 'Hardware' > 'Device Manager'.
Select 'IDE/...Controllers', highlight the Secondary and 'Uninstall'
Reboot and the system will reinstall the controller and the attached device.
I assumed the burner is on the Secondary, but it might be on the Primary, so uninstall that if there is no change.
