I recently bought a 4gb memory stick on ebay this seemed faulty so i got a replacment, both were the same even though i can fit up to 10 games on these the psp will only recognise 4-5 i have tried 2 psp consoles and they are the same, is this something i am doing wrong or faulty memory sticks

All the games works when loaded using 2gb memory stick

You must upgrade your psp firmware.

Which firmware version?

I've got a psp with a 4gb Sony stick that formats fine on 3.40 OE but for some reason has loads of corrupt data entries in the save data utility and game area from the XMB.

It also comes up as locked when a Mac tries to connect to it but works fine on a Pc.

Sorted it. Looks like its a fake memory stick. Copied the empty folders off the stick then formatted it on a Pc and copied them back. Now there's no corrupt data icons anymore!

Actually, 3.40-OE support MSD Pro 4 GB even fake item.
Currently, I have some MSD Pro 4 Gb High speed and no problem with my PSP.
All of my MSD are fake and work perfectly in my PSP.

I suggest you try to format it from your PSP.

I have formatted the MSD pro 4 Gb few times in fat32 format and also tried format using PC. But still experience the same issue.

Thats your problem right there....eBay is notorious for having fake or sub-par memory for sale...Especially the ones from Hong Kong sellers!! Always buy your memory from a reputable merchant-one you can return it to should problems arise. And I have said it before, dont be cheap and spend the extra money on good memory, because you know you are not spending it on the free games you are getting....

You can double check its authenticity by selecting one of the memory stick icons under either PHOTO,VIDEO, or GAME in the psp menu-and hit triangle to bring up the information sidebar-X select that, and it will show your memory stick status: amount of total space, free space, and MagicGate...If it says "unknown", "unsupported", or is just blank after the MagicGate text, then you have a fake memory stick-and thats the reason why you cant get more than 1.5 or 2GB's worth of data on there at any given time...

Well your transfer rate is going to be slow if you have a fake memory stick-you are just going to have to deal with it...Otherwise, go out and buy a real one...

Thats funny they have managed to put little messages when you have an error-those counterfeiters are getting pretty slick....

No, not unless you have a bogus downgrading program that would cause your psp to brick...PSP's cant run executable (.EXE) files-so chances of having a virus on your psp is nil...

A 4gb Sandisk memory stick from Newegg.com probably won't be fake right? I'm thinking about getting it since it's only like $56.

just bought a fake memory card from ebay, after doing some more research I found out all the fake cards have a T in the name, here is the full rundown:

All Genuine SONY Memory Sticks have exactly the following part numbers:-
PRO series: 1GB (MSX-1GS), 2GB (MSX-2GS).
PRO Duo Hi-Speed series: 1GB (MSX-M1GN), 2GB (MSX-M2GN), 4GB (MSX-M4GN).
PRO Duo series (previous): 1GB (MSX-M1GST), 2GB (MSX-M2GS), 4GB (MSX-M4GS), 8GB (MSX-M8GS).
PRO Duo series (current): 2GB (MSX-M2GS/X), 4GB (MSX-M4GS/X), 8GB (MSX-M8GS/X).

Below are easily identifiable FALSE Sony part numbers with extra letter T, these are FAKE Sony!!!
PRO Duo: 2GB (MSX-M2GST/X), 4GB (MSX-M4GST/X), 8GB (MSX-M8GST/X).
For PSP owner:- In your PSP Menu screen, go to Memory Stick, press the Triangle button, then select Information. Genuine SONY will display as MagicGate Supported. If you see Unknown or Unsupported then you know you have a FAKE Sony!

So what is it about the PSP that prevents it from accessing the upper 2gb. I was able to copy my movies onto my PSP up to the first 2gb. When I tried to write to the other 2gb it showed that the files were "corupted". I then put the same memory stick into my PC card slot and was able to copy fules to the upper 2gb's of the memory stick and play them in other PC's. Then putting this same memory stick into the PSP two thing happened, 1. The same error message when looking at the files, 2. The MP3 files were deleted by the PSP. I put the memory stick back in the PC and verified the files were gone. Is this another case of Sony and their checking for SONY MEMORY and then taking action against those of us that pick to use other suppliers memory?

Sandisk 4GB's show all and access all 4GBs

it has to do w/ how the actual stick stores information, not necessarily a PSP Flaw, they do accept other manufacturers Memory cards.

hey tony, check on ur psp if it's magicgate supported.

i don't understand why people won't just spend the extra $10-$20 and get a real card from a retailer, look for sales, they happen alot.
