I have a comstar usb 2.0 hd. I was wondering if i could use it insted of buying a 360 hd, I dont have one to try with.

As I understand it Yes, but it doesn't work with all HD, there are reports of people doing this and it works but not with all HD, only few are compatible.

... So i've heard anyways :P

You can read vids, music, and pictures from an external drive-IF they're in the right formats.

HOWEVER, some people have had luck in using programs such as 'partition magic' to copy the entire partition of a 20gb 360 drive to a larger sata laptop drive, keeping all data and formatting(Fat-X, almost identical to what the original XBox uses), and these drives can be used for anything a stock M$ drive could; however, this will require a fair amount of technical knowledge, and only a few people have tried it. This also means taking apart your current 20 or 120gb drive, and swapping the sata laptop drive inside, it can't be done via USB.

There's just not much reason to do it right now, especially with a 120gb drive already in existence.

When the modding scene gets wider, like it is for the original; where users can do all kinds of things with the system, THEN you'll start seeing more options and more people doing this.

LOL; I swear to you it's cable, we just pay ten bucks more for the 'premium' service.

I'm curious to hear if anyone on AD has tried the hard drive trick above.

I've considered it, but without any homebrew to speak of, it hasn't seemed pertinent to me just yet.
