Hi there,

I have a wii with a wiikey and I am having problems burning games. I usually get the disc cannot be read error but then after reading through this forum I found I needed region frii and this helped. Now I can burn them so that the wii recognises them on the wii menu, however, upon clicking the icon to start the game it just goes to a black screen with no text and does nothing, the controller auto-shuts down and nothing can be done until you reset the console. I know the wiikey is working as I have a backup game to test, this works fine, originals work fine as well, so obviously the mistake is on my part somewhere in the burning process.

I have asked the originator of the backup how he does it and all he says is that he burns it, nothing more, which didn't really help me :p
The discs I use to burn are ones recommended here on the forum, the verbatim dvd-r discs, also tried other discs however they produce the same results. I have tried burning at 1x 2x 4x 6x speed however they all produce the same results as previously mentioned. My DVD burner is a Pioneer 111d, this was again recommended in your forums (I have this burner by chance, I didn't just go out and buy it).

All the iso's I have tried have been at 4.37gig exactly and I must say I am running out of discs and methods to keep trying. If anyone could help or point me in the right direction I would be really grateful.

Thank you kindly,

Mojonicus

Check the games compatibility first on gbawiki.

Many of the japanese games will only load the startup screen but once you click start it will display a black screen only.

Make sure the games you got is same region with your console or that it works with your console.

Thank you for that, however this error applies to PAL and USA region discs, before I got the regionfrii it wouldn't load anything. I have also checked the compatibility list and the one(s)I am trying all seem ok.

BTW I forgot to mention on my original post I have tried the following burn programs: Nero, CloneCD and IMGBurn.

I am really at a loss on this one :(

Not to sure here... but you never mentioned that you purchased the "LG" drive to dump the images with Raw dump 2.0.. your not trying to copy these disc's with your Pioneer drive are you? if so thats your problem, otherwise you might need to be decrypting the torrent files - Try burning the WiiKey setup disc and see if that works if so then its certainly something wrong with your ISO's that your using.

Ah sorry I didn't mention that, I am using my flat mates LG drive. They come out at 4.37gigs, I have tried downloading one game though just to see if it was the rip process causing it however this is still giving me the same problem.

I will try burning the wiikey setup and see what happens with that, will update on here once I am done.

Thanks

Are you saying you use region frii to patch the game disc? If so you don't need to use region free all you need to do is turn on Region override with the Wiikey set up disc.

What region is your Wii and what region are the game disc your using. be specific don't avoid the question by saying well some are Pal and some are NTSC(U). Give the region of your Wii and let us no what the title of the game is and what region the game disc is.

I've been having the same problem. Here are some of the instances that it has happened to me:

I have:
--Nintendo Wii (NTSC/USA)
--Wiikey (had the hologram)
--Firmware: 2.0 U
--Used the 1.2 boot disc to enable the region override

Media used:
--Memorex 16x DVD-R

I tried:
--Mario Party 8 (PAL) (4,699,979,776 bytes)
--Changing it to NTSC (USA) with Wiigionfree
--Removing the update prompt with WiiBrickBlocker
--Burning at 4x with Nero
--Got a black screen

I also tried:
--Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (NTSC/USA) (4,699,979,776 bytes)
--Removing the update prompt with WiiBrickBlocker
--Burning at multiple speeds (2.4x, 4x, 8x)
--Got a black screen

I was thinking that the cheap DVD-Rs were causing the problem, but now I don't know if I want to go out and buy better ones if people using Verbatim DVD-Rs are having the same issues.
