First of all I hope I am in right forum..... Sorry If i am not....I am psp user is pretty new to all this.

I am wanting to back up a UMD for the first time.

In these forums I have seen many programs mentioned but I am not quite sure what they do or how best to use them

So if anybody can fill in the blanks for me .... or correct what I am going to say I shall welcome this warmly

Fastloader ===== ?????

UMDGen ===== I think its a program that rebuilds iso's from rar files

daxumddumper ==== A program that can backup a UMD direct to a memory stick or your pc via usb

USBSSS ==== A program that works the same way as dax does

The question is which program do I use? dax or USB?

The link below is a guide for USB

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/464626

Can I follow what is said above....replacing files etc if i have CFW 3.40 OE-A

is there guide for dax on afterdawn?

Also are there any general guides for installing homebrew software on my psp?

thanks for the help in advance

well, you arent being very clear about what FirmWare you have. if its 3.40OEA then you are set to read more. but read no further if you still have official Firmwares, for they can only run Official Code, hence the name.

To install Homebrew, just get the zip file from a website. MAKE SURE THAT IT IS GOOD SITES FOR HOMEBREW. (like pspupdates.qj.net)

if you get it from some weird site, it might be malicious code if you run it. and it will BRICK your PSP!! (nooz!)

then extract the ZIP, or RAR, and you should see two folders (most of the time)

in example

zipped: filename.zip

unzipped: filename(folder) and filename%(folder)

place BOTH of those files in your game150 folder.

then you should have it on your game menu. (this was all done in USB mode)

as for UMDrippers, i use usbsss myself. its pretty straightfoward. just start it up, then put in a USB to the copmputer, and a UMD that you want to rip, then choose the FIRST selection on the main menu.
it will then show a new hardware on your computer. open up the containing folder, or goto my computer, and open the drive in which your PSP is connected to. you should see an ISO. (or zip)

just put that on your computer and let it copy.

note that some programs only contain ONE folder. just place that in game150 to run.

i hope that this helps in what you had in mind!

have fun! :)
