Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie here and to all of this firmware stuff. However I have done my research but have a few last minute questions before I buy myself a PSP.

First off, I'm curious as to what version will i expect to get when I buy a psp? Will it be 3.50? I know there is a downgrade to v1.5 (which is what I need to hack right?). But if it's something above 3.51 is it worth it buying it now if there won't be another hack to downgrade?

Do I just need to downgrade the firmware to play backup games and watch movies? Also what is this TMA-80 (i think it was that I read) stuff. I remember reading that if it has a # somewhere inside the PSP, than it means something else? I'm not entirely sure what that means.

I finally chose the PSP over the DS. PSP games seem so much more fun and graphic intense :) DS I'll probaly get bored of it rather quickly. I am just scared I will brick my PSP.

Thank you for the help guys. Hopefully I can buy it within the next day!!

One more thing I forgot to add, since the PSP Slim is coming out in September should I wait? I figure that when the new one comes out, the team won't hack it, or it'll be harder to hack thus, preventing me from playing backups.

I thought this forum was for "Discuss about PSP modding, firmware downgrading, etc."

People in this forum seem more knowledgeable about firmware and such...since it is the firmware forum. I did my research too but I wanted to clarify some things. Why are people so vain? Everyone was a newbie one day...just help each other out. I'm just asking for a few answers, that's it.

Yep he's right.It's the best way of getting a good PSP.Now the PSP version out in stores would be version 3.51 or 3.52.eBay is the place for the best PSP versions.

My PSP Life-
2.71-> 2.80-> 3.11-> 3.50-> 1.50-> 3.40OE-A

Bricked before then recovered by Re-Flashing.

The old ones WILL be cheaper. I wouldn't be surprised to see the used systems going for $99-$109 CAD.

I'm going to prob toss a slim on hold and leave it (unless I can get a limited edition one... please release them in Canada).

So, it's really up to you. You can pick up a used one in a few months for a bit cheaper..

Yeah if you have a TA-082 motherboard then you might need a different method of downgrading depending on the firmware.

@mystro823

There is no harm in buying a PSP now. I bought mine I would say about 1 month ago when 3.50 had been around for a while and when I bought my PSP from my local WalMart it was firmware 2.71. If you want a better chance of a lower firmware buy from a smaller store such as K-Mart or RadioShack. A store were they don't get new shipments of PSP's in weekly.

Darn it. So I was shopping around for PSP's and they all seem to be sold out everywhere and/or discontinued by Sony. Everywhere I go says they won't be getting any new shipments, and haven't gotten any new ones for the last month because of the new slim coming out. Zellers, Walmart, Bestbuy, Futureshop all ran out of PSP's.

However, at EB Games they still have some for $200 CDN. They also have USED for $150. I asked them if I could check the version and they said no hehehe... They caught on. I'd prefer to buy it at Bestbuy or Futureshop since I could return it if its a different version.

Don't know what to do!! Should I wait for the Slim? Team M33 will end up making a hack for the PSP Slim I would assume? Probaly few months down the road? I'm hoping to just hold out to get a PSP Slim and wait for the hacks. I mean people now a days hack everything eventually. Like PS3 and Xbox360. What you guys think? So hard to find a PSP right now.

Btw, I'm located in Toronto.

the psp slim might take years to hack cuz its takin a while for a 3.52 downgrader. Just buy one from where you can return it if you dont like the firmware.

PSP>2.0>forgot sum>2.81>3.03>1.5>3.03oea>1.5>3.40oea>custom theme semibrick>3.40oea>3.52 M33>1.50>3.52 M33>1.50 addon 2>3.71 M33>3.71-2 M33

A downgrading hack is one thing. This new firwmare for the Slim has to be reverse engineered which could take a while. You have to reverse engineer the TV out capabilities the 1Seg Digital TV tuner capabilities. The "Slim Firmware" is a whole new animal.

You don't ask "Can I see the firmware". Of course we'll say no. rofl. We won't, no matter what open a NEW system. But, we'll open a pre-owned one for you to take a look at, just say you want to see if it works and looks okay, pick it up, turn it on, go to the system information and check. If it's working and everything then buy it if you want to.. I'm sending you a PM because of private information (don't worry people, nothing important, he lives where I do :P )
