Ok, my younger bro got a ps3 today, we signed up for psn easily everything seams to be fine, but now and again we get messages saying "network error" and when we try to play games (only have motorstorm and resistance atm) they do not connect..

This is the weird part, i connect to the internet through "Tiscali Broadband" but it shows up under dial up connections. I think the ps3 is trying to use the lan connection to get online (which i dont use) as if i dont have it running the Ps3 wont connect at all (same goes for if tiscali broadband is disconnected). is there a way to make the ps3 solely use the Tiscali connection?? as i think this is the problem.

Sorry if this comes off as confusing, it is to me aswell. Thanks for looking, hepls appreciated.

How is your PS3 connected to the internet? Through a router, via ICS?

Give us some more info.

ok, sorry. Im connected through ethernet cable directly to the computers port.

My xbox 360 works through this same ethernet cable and port btw if thats of any use at all...

The annoying thing is it comes up with "network error" now and again but the connection test says everything is fine.

Have tried diasabling you firewall on your PC - it is possible that it is blocking some ports the PS3 needs.

Are all you settings correct on your PS3 (DNS settings etc).
