Hi all,

I have recently tried burning 2 different games to Verbatim 12x DVD-R which are identified as Taiyo Yuden TYG03 with DVD Identifier.

I have tried burning the 2 separate images with Nero and DVD Decrypter.

And yes, my PS2 is modded.

My DVD burner is only capable of max speed of 4x though and I am burning at 4x. I am wondering if this is the cause of my PS2 failing to read the DVDs, as I have read suggestions on this forum of burn speeds between 8x to 12x for a 16x disc.

Any inputs are much appreciated.

Actually, TYG03 are 16x discs, whether or not your packet says 12x ;-)

You're using top quality discs so that's not the problem. 4x burn speed should be fine too.

I agree with dwaynep.. your ps2 laser is most likely dying.

its probably that fact on how he was using mny types of media brands to play his burned games, thus affecting stress on te lens

Well, that could be a factor if the other brands of media he was using were poor quality. It is common with all lasers (ps2/burner etc) that poorly manufactured discs will damage them over time..

Hi all,

Sorry for the typo/oversight/drunken stupor while posting/etc as indeed the spindle says 16x instead of 12x

I've tried burning the images with another burner at 8x but ended up with another 4 discs that won't boot (please insert a ps2/playstation disc error message).

The original discs of 4 randomly picked games run perfectly fine though, so are there any obvious tell-tale signs of a dying laser?

Yeah, lasers have a harder job reading copied discs than they do retail ones.
