I am having trouble playing DVDs on my PS2!!

A few days ago, my PS2 started to act funny, and when I would play my games the music in the background would stall and would repeat part of the tune over and over again like a broken record. It also froze while I was watching a movie. And it has done it a few times afterwards when I reset it. It also will make noise that it didn't make before like the disk is banging into something and like it could be scratching the disk. It hasn't really scratched any of the disks, but I am worried it could do damage to itself or my games. I have had it for about a year, so I don't think it is getting worn out. I have checked everything, and nothing seems to be wrong with it. I was wondering if there was something I could do to fix it because I didn't want to have to send it in.

Have you tried opening the case and perhaps look around inside?

Yeah, I have opened it every time to see what it would cause it, and I have cleaned all of the dust around the eye, and it still does the same thing. It seems to work a bit better when I open and reset it. I don't play it that long, so I don't think it could be that it is getting over heated or something. I am tempted to just take the whole thing apart and see if I can find the problem.

Slim or fat ps2?

Maybe try readjusting the cog wheel if fat version.
