I am ready to start to backup my DVD collection, I have an HP pc, and I planning on purchasing a HP 300 I, I believe it is a DVD-R/RW, my question is, that the only DVD player I have is my Playstation 2, can anyone tell me what Playstation can play -r's or +r's.. and is DVD COPY worth the money?

Well I can tell you that HP Only makes the Plus format DVD Burners and for the price of a HP you can get a Tripple Format DVD Burner that will Burn Both Plus,Minus and DVD-Ram..You can get an LG 4040B DVD-/+RW/Ram drive for about $150 US..As for Playstation I think it Plays DVD-R"s but they have Problems with Cheap DVD Media and DVDX Copy is NOT worth getting cuz you can do basicly the same thing with Free software Like DVD Shrink and/Or DVD Decryptor...Cheers

I have an HP 300i. It uses +R media. My PS2 will play +R movies burnt on it, but it will not play +RW's.

My burner's +R movies play perfectly in every stand-alone I've tried em in....like 6 different brands of stand-alones, using primarily Maxell and Memorex media.

The 300i has worked flawlessly and I'm very pleased with it. I do NOT wish I had bought a multi format burner.

Don't BUY any software to copy DVD's, unless it is DVD2One. Everything u need to backup DVD's can be downloaded for free. DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are about the best out there in the free arena.

There is no problem so big, that a brick placed against the proper skull cannot fix =)

I guess if you have never tried one you will never know, But I personally can"t see the Logic in paying close to double for something that has a third the Functionallity...But to each his own...Cheers

Walmart sells the HP 300i 4x DVD+R/W for $149.

Show me ANY 4x burner that sells for $75 US and I'll show u stolen property.

I haven't tried any other format, becuz I have no need to. The +R does what I want...and that is make quality DVD-Video backups and data disks.

To each his own....yup.

Im playing my -R and R/W backups on my ps2, some of my -R media freezes towards the end though and eventually quits working. The -R/W discs play fine. Im in the process of trying different -R media and getting a "real" DVD player.

Actually were I live the HP Burners are still about $300 But the LG 4040b Tripple Format Runs about $150-$200(after rebate) My Very First Burner was a HP 200i which I bought on E-Bay for $110 Canadian which at the time was about $80 US But I found it very Picky With Media so I re-sold it here in the Paper and got $225 Canadian because at the time this modell was about $300 Canadian....The New Plextor 8x Burners were Just released here But they are Like $600 and they don"t even have 8x Media here yet, But I"m sure even they will come down in price...Cheers
