PSP wont read

My brother shut off his psp and when he turned it back on to finish playing the game it now read can not read disc. We tried cleaning the lazer and tried different games and movies. Each time the same message. I called sony and they said that I would have to send it in to them and get a refurbished one for 80.00. Is there any way i can fix this myself? Please Help

What Firmware are you utilizing?

This is the MOD and Firmware discussion, wrong forum altogether.

If you can get a replacement UMD case, then you can get yours refurbished at a store that does so. A lot of tech shops do it, but it's not guaranteed to work.. refurbs don't work most of the time, but I've never seen a UMD refurb.
