As people like me are gradually moving onto Vista I'm guessing this question is going to keep popping up (actually I've been on Vista since March but never tried to play a foreign disc til now).

Previously I used to play foreign-region DVDs in Xp and win2k by using a freeware called "Remote Selector" (available in videohelp.com region free tools section) which works with PowerDVD or WinDVD. It worked whether your drive is region free or region locked (I have 1 of each drive now).

I have version 5 of these softwares, which are old and I don't know if Vista compatible (don't know 'bout Remote Selector either) so I was just hoping I could play in Media Player Classic which I already have installed. It will play region 1 DVDs in my region 1 drive, but my region free drive will only play region-free discs. VLC will play audio but no video.

So what's a free way for me to play foreign discs? Will DVD43 work? I've heard mixed reports about it's Vista compatibility. If not, what else can I do?

Also, if I flashed my region free drive back to the original Region-2 will I be able to play region-2 discs on that drive and Region-1 discs on the other without the need for any 3rd party software? If so that would work for now, but when I get a laptop that won't be a good solution

Yes, DVD43 should work. Otherwise there is AnyDVD from slysoft that works

Got a newer version of vlc and now my region free drive will play whatever I throw at it. But the video it more pixelated than it should be, and a google search has shown me other people have this problem too. Anyone know a solution?

USE DVD43!!!!! Because vlc can't decode the video properly since it's protected
