I've got the newest slax (frodo 5.1.8) on a CDR and it can boot perfectly fine, however it never pauses to load up my hitachi drive into ModeB...I've tried having the 360 on for 10-15 seconds and even LONGER, like one minute, to make sure it's fully on when I boot slax (automatically, due to it being first in the boot order)...So after slax does it's thing (OR DOESN'T...) I restart the PC and then go to device manager...I see my SATA RAID controller with a yellow exclamation point, and in the via RAID tool it says it doesn't find any drive...if the 360 isn't connected, the yellow exclamation point disappears...
SATA is ENABLED in my BIOS, and I have an onboard VIA 8237 chip on my Gigabyte K8VM800M rev 1... My BIOS version is F5.

What could I be doing wrong?
I appreciate everybody's help...This is my first time modding my 360 and it seems as though I'm failing at the easiest part...I mean...slax runs fine, but it doesn't boot the drive into ModeB...I've tried ejecting it after windows loads, and it only requires one push. I've tried updating the SATA controller drivers, and when it gives me the yellow exclamation point, it says Device 15, Error code 10, location 0...

P.S: If you guys can't think of anything, I suppose I could try the flashing on a friend's PC...
Help me, please.
Regards...

here that has all the info you need. for this particular problem, however, I would recommend going and spending a wopping 12 bucks on the right SATA card, it'll save you time and headaches. but before you do that, simply try an older version of slax.

I will do that, and I will let you know how it turns out. I'll try 5.1.6, and I'm supposed to be using Slax Frodo live cd, right?

Is pSlax better for getting it into ModeB?
P.S: I Just tried booting with 5.1.6 and it didn't go into ModeB...

it's strange because my onboard SATA is reported as compatible with the hitachi drive. Are there any other possible solutions other than PURCHASING something (like a SATA card?)...Is there a command in slax that can initialize modeB?

I will try said image and will return with the results!
Is ejecting the tray ESSENTIAL at any point? Or is it just a test after the loading of slax is complete?

Alright...I tested pSlax and still, no ModeB...I saw a small NTSC-fs or something device notice during the slax boot though...said hda1 wouldn't be able to read/write and that I'd have to mount it in windows or something...could that mean anything? How do I make sure that RAID is disabled? SATA is enabled in my mobo BIOS, and I never saw a RAID enable/disable option ANYWHERE...

There's no way that I've bricked any stuff so far, correct? No flashing has taken place and it hasn't even booted in ModeB (and I've followed several tutorials, trust me! I just don't want to put it all back together without getting the flashing done, but if I were to just give up for the time being (until I get my hands on a sata pcmcia card (for THIS computer), would there be any chance of it not functioning? Also: Is it safe to play games without the full chassis intact?

ALSO: would a pcmcia card work for connecting the 360? I would rather get that, because I have a laptop and for this I have been having to use my older server desktop pc.
Thanks for continuing to help me guys, hope someone can find a solution!

Try following this video guide. I used this method and it worked great.

There was a problem with my pc that some kind of hardware conflict or software conflict wouldnt let me flash properly but i tried the exact same method on kids pc and it went perfect without a hitch.

Anyway, have a look and see if this helps. If your still getting probs then shout back :D

It's exactly what I've been doing up to this point, and I've tried different builds of Slax...I've also been letting my xbox load for up to 15 seconds before turning on my PC and booting from the PC.

two wire trick doesn't work for the 78's. but, YES OPEN AND CLOSE THE TRAY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN AT START UP! i'm not quite sure if that' 100% needed or not, but it worked for me. if that doesn't work, you're going to have to purchase the 13 dollar sata card listed here

try powering up the xbox about 5 seconds after you start the pc, if you get a pause and it says spinning up while its checking one of your sata ports then open the drawer and it should run through fine. If it gets to a point where it seems to continuosly check one of your ports about 10 times then it is likely that your sata chipset wont work and you will need to buy a cpi sata card.

Just thought of that cause thats what happened originaly with me. My onboard sata wasnt compatable for flashing the 78 as it keep getting device error or something like that when it was checking the port that the drive was on.

anyways look out for the spinning up bit or the repeated checking of one sata port. At least if thats fine its one more thing ruled out. :D
