hi all, 1st off i'd just like to say im a total noob to PSP's, i never bothered gettin 1 coz i would just use my PS2 or PS3, but i will be needing something to kill alot of time in my new job, so i thought what would be better than a PSP.
So basically im just hear to get some info or some really easy to follow instructions for a noob like myself to get up and runnin in the PSP scene, i will be gettin a new PSP slim when the avaliable.
so any info an how to run :-
ISO'S - of a memory stick
HOMEBREW - what is it, why is it good
FIRMWARE VERSIONS - i have heard 1.5 is the best, why so?
MY PSP WHEN I GET IT BEING A PSP SLIM OBVIOUSLY WONT HAVE FIRMWARE VERSION 1.5 - will i still be able to do homebrew and run iso's of a memory stick.
as i said, i very new to this, please dont laugh at me LOL, and any info at all would be great, hopefully i can wrap my mind around it
cheers

On a CFW PSP you place your ISOs and CSOs in the ms0:/ISO/ folder.

Homebrew are "unsigned" applications that run on the PSP, basically that means they are made by the user. These can be anything from Pong and Snake to PSPradio and PSPtube.
Also under this category there are the emulators :)
Lots of the older systems can be emulated, like N64, SNES, GBA, and also PSX but that doesn't really count..

Firmware version 1.50 is the only official firmware (aside from 1.00) that lets you do all of the above. That is why there is now CFW, so that you get the same benefits of having a higher firmware (eg: 3.52), with the ability to run ISOs and unsigned code like 1.50.

This one doesn't have a definite answer, recently there was a special application released that could turn any normal battery and memory card into a "Jig-Kick" which could downgrade any firmware, and that's great. BUT because the Slim hasn't been released yet, we can't know for sure if it will work with it or not, so you may not be able to downgrade...
PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)
PS3 3.01 - iPod Touch 2G 16GB Jailbroken - Xbox 360 60GB - PC, Q6600, 3GB DDR2, GTX260 (216) 896MB

Chances are that it just won't work, i don't think Sony would be cruel enough to make it so that trying will brick your PSP for good...
Then again, it's Sony we're talking about :P

Yeah :P
Will it even be possible for a psp slim to go to 1.50 firmware? being that its default is 3.50 (at least..)
Where the normal psp started on 1.50...

Well, yes, as it is only software it should be fine, it's the same as building a great gaming PC today and putting DOS on it.
And the default is 3.60 i think.
