I am having problems with a couple of disks in 40 approx where certain.VOB files cant be read and naturally cant be copied. both were 1.04.vob. whilst this my first posting I have been taking advice from your forums and have tried dvd decrypter - in aggressive settings and default. Fabdvd, clone2 and many others mentioned and manage to copy approx 39-43 megs(depending on utiliyy used) out of a possible Gig plus on the .VOB. They wont decrypt as come up with error-uncorrectable error. So due to this whole movie cant be burnt.

as I have used most of the utilities mentioned do I have to accept that there is a scratch on the disk preventing my efforts?

I assume its a scratch as I tried to decrypyt a 5 year old movie which I have 2 original copies of (shop bought)- purely as an exercise as they are the most scratched disks I can lay my hands on- one had fault as above and But I got another copy which was fine to decrypt?Leading me to believe this error is a scratch not a security issue? when watching on a home dvd player the worst I can see on the original discs is a slight pause and I dont know if thats the right part of the movie or not causing the issue?

can I copy more or all of the defective vob by some means. If a pause in playback of original disk is part of this problem cant I just skip a small part of the file rather than the 700 megs which follow it?

Thanks for any advice in advance

Assuming this is not a burned DVD, I have used an old tooth brush and hand soap to clean up un-playable disks.
Letting a stream of water run over the surface and stroking in one direction from centre to outer rim (never in a circular motion) then drying with a soft, lint free towel.
In one stubborn case I used a commercial metal polish 'Nevr-Dull Magic Wadding' to recover one object from the lending library.

Thanks for your suggestion - did give it a bit of a clean but still no good. But for your info read a forum called 'Ripit4me..a quick reference guide' by member Arniebear. which solved the problem and makes even the scratched play( assuming the scratches were the issue) I am still unsure if the disk condition was the issue or programmed around it? but the system described by Arniebear solved it.
cheers
