So, I'm not sure if this goes here, but PS2 problem.

So, it's actually been a while since it happened. But a while back, my PS2 stopped reading discs, now, me being me, I thought it was a DRE (Even though I've had plenty before that) I opened everything up, cleaned the lens, moved the white cog a notch and then put the CD cover back on, put the cover back on, then turned everything on, and put a CD in.

Still nothing.

So, I take the cover off, clean it again, and then I put the CD cover on, and I leave the case off. I put a CD in the cover and I watch the CD thingy, with the circle opening thingamabob and the CD spun.

BUT IT ONLY DID A HALF SPIN. THEN NOTHING ELSE.

Like, wtf, right? It stopped spinning discs.

Is there some sort of way to fix this?

It does everything else, it turns on, and goes to the browser, it just doesn't read CDs.

May be your Reset/IC cable (thats the one you gotta be careful of when you open it) is faulty. check if its loose or tampered.
Or may be your laser gear is not functioning properly.

Why would that cable make it not spin discs? I mean, I know all about that damn cable, as it was the reason my first PS2 died, as I opened it up, not knowing it was there, and RIP it came out of the buttons one.

I think it might be the laser gear, but how can i fix it?

You are going to have to reverse engineer the product to find the answer to that question.

Apparently, some kind of signal is not strong enough to allow the motor to continue spinning.

You could try to get some ps2 parts, but that seems like a hassle.

But yet, forking out 130 bucks for a new PS2 isn't a very nice alternative either.

I really don't know what is causing the error. Maybe a call to Sony tech support might bring something up, but probably unlikely.
