My friend bricked his psp last year and has kept onto it ever since, i'm trying to unbrick it with pandora battery and memory stick. If i put the mem stick in mine (unbricked 3.52 M33) and then the battery the wifi and memstick lights light up and then disappear and the mem stick light flashes and the menu to restore etc.... comes up. I put it in his (the bricked one) and the wifi and memstick lights come on for ages and then eventually go off and leave a blank screen. I know the mem stick and battery are correctly created as it works on mine. does this mean he has a hardware failure?

Try it again and when you get to the above point hit the brightness button and see if the menu will appear.

thanks for the reply, i tried the brightness thing and didnt make any difference.

Realised that after the two lights go off the power light goes off as well so i'm assuming it turns itself off after a bit.

dakillz, did you follow these steps on your friends psp

- Insert Memory Stick into the PSP
- Remove power cord and insert the JigKick (pandoras) Battery into the PSP.
- A menu appears when the PSP boots. Follow the onscreen information
and instructions.

I have the exact same problem, can any one direct me in the right direction? Should i format my memory card and start over? But still, i don't see why it works in my PSP, but not another, other than the fact that the other has a TA-082, and mines a TA-079, which shouldn't make a difference.

It has somethign to do with a failing idkey on your psp..

Usually the brightness on a psp is working perfectly and when you have a bad idkey the brightness gives you problems..

Now theres a way to prevent it with the idkey cleaner 1.2 homebrew but if its already dead theres no way to restore it if the psp is bricked...

I think there is i just dont remember :S

But.. if thats the case research it.

So are you telling me that this PSP is bricked beyond repair, just because of the idkey? There is no way of restoring if it is bricked, or though the pandora battery?

Anyways, thanks for the help.

Steps to Downgrade Using the Pandora's battery w/o damaging any battery

STEP 1: Download Pandora's battery GUI (google it)
Step 2: insert USB cable and hit USB connection on PSP
Step 3: Go through the step on GUI
Step 4: Boot PSP under RECOVERY mode and make the HOMEBREW KERNAL 1.50 under the advanced config menu.
STEP 5: Boot PANDORA's BATTERY CREATOR under game and when it boots press " 0 " this will save the EProm of the battery to the memory stick and reboot the pandora battery creator program and hit the "X" button to make it a pandora battery.
STEP 6: now after you ahve made a pandora's battery remove the power cord and memory stick and battery.
STEP 7: Insert MEMORY STICK
Step 8: insert the battery and your PSP should turn on w/o you having to push the power button and your wlan light and memory stick lights will go off and a menu will come up.
step 9: select the downgrade option
step 10: when the PSP reboots insert another battery into the PSP and boot it normally.
step 11: Insert the settings for 1.50 fw and load the pandora battery creator and once again press 0 to save eprom.bin ot memorystick.
step 12: MAKE SURE THE POWER CORD IS INSERTED!!
step 13: remove the battery and insert the PANDORA BATTERY and boot the pandora creator again
step 14: Click the option that says restore battery and you are all set.

Thanks for the help, but i have done all the steps needed to set up the battery and memory stick, and they both work perfectly on my own PSP. I've even downgraded it to 1.5 and re upgraded it back to 3.52 M33, but this same battery and memory stick only gets me to step 8, and the 2 lights come on, but they simply stay there. The menu never shows. I've also tried pressing every button, including the display button.
Thanks again!! i really want to get this thing working.

This is very weird indead. I've made another pandora battery, and re-made the memory stick,
and no luck. At this moment, i could downgrade/unbrick my own PSP no problem, but the other one will only light up both lights and stay that way, the menu never loads. Maybe the PSP is bricked for good? Any ideas?

What it sounds like to me is that you have a bricked psp :-) lol. but seriously when you have a bricked psp then the memory stick light blinks for a second and then after about 10 seconds it turns off. I am not quite sure but I think that it is not booting to the battery. I have tried to boot a bricked psp without the correct battery in and it just flashes for a second and shuts off. If is was the memory card it would just sit there with the memory access light blinking for a second then it just sits there doing nothing but it still has the power led on. I do not think that it is the keys because If I am not mistaken the keys are read from the memory stick. I think this because my keys were seriously messed up on one of my bricks and when I unbricked it the keys were registered as good as new. In fact I had to modify the keys to run homebrew even though I was on 1.5. I am not saying the battery is messed up but ckeck his psp for physical damage.
