My psp wont read my memory stick anymore

I got a 4gb sandisk memory card which has been working perfectly for my psp (3.40 oe-a) but now it doesn't work, when i insert the memory card nothing happens. The orange light near the wlan switch keeps blinking but i cant access the memory card. The psp just says there is no memory card inserted, whats wrong? I know i could try to reformat the card but i dont want to lose everything i have on it so if there is another way i'd like to hear it. Help appreciated. oh and by the way, i tried with another memory card and that one worked.

Is the memory card a fake one? Because sometimes fake ones are known to do that.

by fake he means did you get it from ebay lol
if you have a card reader just back up your memory stick onto pc and then format it

try rubbing your thumb over the words on the memory card.if it is fake then it is likely to rub off or you can feel it bumping out.

I know its not fake and i didnt buy it from ebay. And i do have a card reader on my pc but not even my pc will read the memory card.

are you sure it's not slightly bent or mis-shappen? this will cause the same problem you have, my lil bro-in-law bent his 4GB slightly and had this problem, nothing u can do but get another if that's the case....or try cleaning the contacts (the lil brassy deals) w/ a Q-tip and some rubbin alchy.

ok, so i tried to reformat the memory stick but it didn't work. It said there was no memory stick inserted. What the hell do i do now? I dont see why it would be broken. Ive done nothing to it to get it damaged or anything.

how long have you had it i mean would you be able to take it back to where you got it from

i bought the memory stick for about 5 months ago, ill try to send them an email ask if i can get a new one somehow but i doubt it.

if you got it from a shop they should give you a new one i mean 5 months
ain't very long and it should still be under warrinty so you should get a new one alternatively you could pull a switcharoonie on a friend lol

Same thing happened to me. For some reason my PSP wouldn't read my memorystick and not even Windows could read the memorycard but I right clicked Removable K: and formatted it and it worked.
My PSP Firmware History: 2.60 had to return the PSP because it had a dead pixel > new PSP had firmware 2.71 > 1.5 > 3.52 M33 > 3.52 M33-4 > 3.71 M33 > 3.71 M33 with 1.50 kernel

Probably the memstick got infected somehow with a computer virus, which autoruns when ever it is inserted..

are you sure there's not the slightest bend in it or anything? look at it, lay it on a flat surface, etc. etc.
who's going to waste time writing a mem card virus, seems like a waste of time for a coder.

I have a 32MB that has the same problem. anyways if the PC freezes when you right click on the memory card you should use the ms format from the Pandora's Battery and format your memory card that way and see if it works.

it doesn't take much, if u can see a slight raise or bend u might have broken the contacts or something on the inside, so i'm guessing since u've tried everything else, it's kind of a lost cause now, and u should get another stick....swap it if u must. But i doubt the place u bought it from 5 months ago will exchange it, u could try though.

But a new one from BB or CC take the new one out out old in and try to return it. thats what i do.

Alright, I had this problem. Just find a friends PSP and format it in there. It is the only way to solve this problem, I have even tried a digital camera. I find someone with a lower firmware has a better chance of being compatible with a corrupt memory stick. Anything 2.81 and below will work, however.
