You know this is lot like the post, I left a while ago about the update in july. That update was only for wireless guitar support which was sort of fishy. On the fact that guitar hero 3 and rockband are going to comeout in october or later(Not in july).
So, unlike most people I stayed off live. I really think, that when that july update came out M$ started logging the ppl who are playing backups online with either Ixtreme or older firmware. So I really think that this downtime is going to be the banhammer. So M$ can get rid of a huge chunk of modders before halo's release. But ya, if I'm wrong I apologize for writing this post. I guess we should just see what happens.
yep, only about 6 more hours until its down, right??? if your right about the july update, i still will be alright i hope since i didnt have the net all summer long, lol.

halo has a huge fan base...so becaues of this microsoft knows that most people will want to play this game for free(bootleg)..this is one of the most hyped games for a while...1 million copies already...so they want to stop people before this game gets copied and sold for cheaper or done by the person on there own...
That still doesn't explain why let people ride till then. If you caught someone stealing from you you would stop them right away, not wait for the next "big hit".

The bans won't come until some time after the update, perhaps a week or so..or maybe a little bit after the Halo 3 release.
And you know this how ?
Sorry, can't give my source away..I just know. It's pretty obvious...if you can't catch on to big "Microsoft" by now then you'll never know there tricks of the trade. Think about it..what type of update could they possibly need to do a couple weeks before one of their biggest games of 2007 hits? If theres any game that they wanna collect $ hugely on it's Halo 3, and they don't have time for modders/hackers getting in the way of that success.

all of this is speculation.
there is no dought that microsoft will at some time try to stop the backups from being played on live but you have no more inside information about it than anyone on these forums.
please dont post your thoughts as facts.
