Hello guys, this is my first time writing a message so bear with me. I have a Wiikey installed on my system and I use Sony DVD-R 16x to burn an ISO. Now I never had any problems with the media. I burned the Wiikey update 1.9b iso to DVD using Imgburn, the disc shows up on the wii, I select it and press reset to test flashing. When it get to 100% the Error message shows up saying that the test failed.

"ERROR: test failed!
Check your connections and try again"

Now I read that the update works with clone and legit wiikeys even though I believe my wiikey is legit since it came from a legit source. I haven't updated my wii to 3.0 as well and its a US wii. Anyhow I would appreciate the help.

-Thanks

Try burning on Fuijifilm DVD-R at 1X-4X and try again.

Try re-downloading the DVD ISO as well.

I've heard some people saying in other forums that this is caused by a weak solder joint on pad #3. I don't have this problem though, so I can't confirm that.

agreed, the wiikey delayed the update for a reasons, so don't put too much hoped in this leaked.

Got the same problem. Fixed it by trying something a user called rdaolio @ psx-scene.com suggested:

when you boot the updater, right before it asks you to press A or reset to start testing, eject the disc.

When the testing succeeds, insert the disc and right before flashing once again eject the disc.

Works like a charm!

I got this error but the eject disk trick worked. However, even though it said it was a success, I didn't have any way to see if it really did work.

I haven't installed 1.9 galaxy yet.

The eject disc "trick" is just that, a trick - it doesn't work, and changes nothing. I have also got this error with the 1.9g update and I'm running out of ideas - my only option I can think of is to check the fuses on my wiikey, I've checked the connections and they're definitely fine.

They cant stop us.

Does the "check your connections error" mean I don't have an authentic Wiikey? I know I paid for an authentic one...too bad the guy who modded it went out of business. So, from what it looks like right now, those who have this error cannot update, therefore, cannot play SMG correct?

Geez...

Well, after reading about the same problem in all the major forums, it is apparent that people have been basically screwing over people who sent them their Wii's to mod. I know that I paid for an authentic Wiikey install and apparently many others did too, only to be rewarded with a clone or something similar. Pretty messed up.

I am having the same problem also. Can anyone confirm 100% if this is due to a fake wiikey?

Hello,

I had the same problem and resolved it. The way to solve it is remove the DVD before it test the firmware and then press reset. After the test, insert the DVD again for the Firmware to be read. Then when it wants to update, once again remove the DVD.
That's the trick.

Unfortunately i did this update because i couldn't play Super Mario Galaxy because of an error. This error remains after the update 1.9g.

this "trick" doesn't do ANYTHING.... you didn't update your chip.... taht's why you are not able to play SMG...

i just got SMG working on my wii.... i bought a wiikey, but the seller put a wiifree.... so i opened my wii, removed the chip, updated its firmware with a pic programmer and put it back on wii.... and it works.... =)

take a look at these topics:

OK so here's my experience. I got the error as well and the DVD eject trick does not work. So then I built my own programmer and that still did not work. So then I decided to use my ATMEL made STK500 programmer which I use when programming DIP packages and this still did not work so I concluded that there must have been something wrong with the circuitry on the wiikey even though other backups and homebrew worked. At this point I decided to build my own wiikey and program it using the STK500. This worked but when I tried the in system programming method via SPI port (which is how the update from the DVD works) it still did not work. So I finally decided to read the ATMEGA8 datasheet under the memory programming section and saw that the reset line has to be controlled when performing an ISP via SPI. Since the reset line is just linked to VCC via a 1k resistor it can not be controlled with the wiikey basic circuitry. So I added a connection from the STK500 to the reset line of the ATMEGA8 and it still did not work. Finally I realised that the 1k resistor is too small and using a larger resistor will make the controlling of the reset line easier and so I replaced the 1k resistor with a 100k resistor. It worked fine and now all updates via DVD work fine as well. Basically im pretty sure that there will be no software fix for this issue and it all boils down to a hardware flaw. Incorrect fuse settings on clone chips may also be an issue but I think that the 1k resistor is simply too small. Also im not sure if anyone has tried this but i do have an idea for a software fix which is a bit of a shot in the dark but it may work. Maybe it wont update because on some firmware versions of the wii region override must be on. Most people who get this message also get the error with the 1.3 config disk so try using the 1.1 or 1.2 config disk and setting the region override to on and then try doing the update. In my case the 1.3 config disk would not work for me but the 1.2 would. Let me know if any of this helps.

For anyone still having the "test failed" problem. I had this problem but just recently got it fixed! I thought it was the chip being faulty. I knew mine was genuine and it was a good solder job. So i kept searching around before i went to buy a new one. and I found this:

http://psx-scene.com/forums/wiikey/60833-v1-9g-update-ready-burn.html

It fixed everything!! Get that iso, burn it with imgburn, and pop it in the wii. Worked perfectly for me. Everything before this gave me the infamous "test failed" error. Until now! Try it out.

That link doesn't work anymore, is there anyway you can send me the file? I'm having this issue and I'm sure my wiikey is legit.
