So i finally figured out that its a horrible idea to use the high gloss cd labels. The cd slips and will get constant read errors . ONLY use non gloss labels .

if u have so much time on your hands to bother printing labels and covers u have a pretty dull life lol

can u see the disc spinning in the drive? NO
can u see the disc inside the folder or case? NO

Do u really need any more info other than the name of the game on the disc? NO

rest my case

Its probs because people just wanna have a pretty looking disc.
If you want to stare at the cd label just stare at it from the wii menu lol.
But if they want cd labels then just let them be Thinone

cd labels will screw up your console drive whether it be ps1 ps2 wii xbox etc

printing covers direct to disc is a waste of ink and money

Really?? I was about to apply labels onto some of my backups because my brother's handwriting on those discs are terrible! I just want to be able at least read the names on those discs.

i had the misfortune of having a couple with labels on the ps1 - made the laser work harder and overheated the console.
the main worry is one of the labels coming loose and getting stuck in the drive mechanism and if the labels are not stuck on evenly all the way round or unequal amounts of adhesive, thinner paper etc then it can make the disc spin unevenly and knock the head of the drive causing more disc reading problems.

i personally would just write the name on the disc again elsewhere or if u really want a nice tidy disc, copy the game onto another disc and write on it yourself

Get an inkjet or laser printer that can print your labels, plus printable disc's and your golden. Printed labels are way better and can be easier in the long run. It doesn't take much time to make a label whether you scan it in, or download it, or just make a text/graphics one your self. I have a friend who wastes a lot of time hand printing his labels I can do it faster and better with my Epson and he has one too. Some people are pragmatic and very stubborn.

Wow! I didn't know about this. Does this apply to any kind of CD, DVD (data, movies, music...)? So it wouldn't be recommended to apply labels onto the disc? All along, I thought that only one side of the disc is important, the other side can get dirty or scratches. Now I know that both sides are important

both sides are important

if u scratch the top surface for instance then the reflection will be affected and the drive will not read it properly

this is just one example

going back to the label/print debate - its really up to the individual user, i have had issues in the past and learnt by them. techniques improve in time and may be better now, to claim what i say is due to ignorance is incorrect, its due to my experience.
your gamble/ your gain or loss either way its your decision

I print directly to the TOP of the disc DVD or CD it takes a special printer like an Epson R220 or R320 which I use and are inkjet printers. They have a disc tray that feeds through the front and back of the printer. This does take special disc's that are inkjet printable either white or dull silver top and cost about $0.30 each for DVD 16x disc's.

You could also use lightscribe disc's but they cost about a $1.00 each and take longer to burn the top rather then painting. The plus with lightscribe is they aren't water soluble like inkjet but you get color with inkjet and I can formal coat the top if I'm worried about washing them.

The above should help clear things up for you. You can also use a Laserjet printer with the proper disc?s, no labels just to make it clear for you. I suggest you do some research before slamming something you are not up on.

see u r slamming something u are not up on

i own a epson R220 and am fully aware of its capabilities

i said above that labels are bad news not printed discs. i said printing on discs was just a waste of ink and time and money

i never slammed anything

u r the one who confused their own post saying printed labels were best when in fact u meant printed discs - that i never disagreed with in the 1st place

Who's confused you should read back through your posts. You also misread into my thread response especially if you own a direct to disc printer. I like oosel also don't see a problem with adhesive labels with exception to a couple of issues inherent to them; i.e., getting the label centered and the extra weight of the label itself. Also if it causes slippage in the drive due to a high gloss finish or just due to the extra weight, but this is rare and could be attributed to issues with the reader itself.

If you don't see the value in a capable printer, its ability and ease of use, a big shame on you. Also printing a generic label directly to your disc is still a label and really doesn't require a ton of ink even if it is a full graphic label. You seem to see things the way you want and not objectively, that is unfortunate I must say.

My objective here isn't to get you going as much as it is to try to help the people I feel you are misleading, there is nothing wrong with making a nice label as you have stated against.

if u read an earlier reply where i tried to explain my opinion was due to MY EXPERIENCE of having labels on discs causing problems in the early days of psx1 - i then said it may have improved since then. I also then said if you choose to do a label, it was each persons own decision or gamble. if you have no problems then great i am truly pleased for you, if you have problems then you learn by them.
i know u can print to disc, i have the printer to do it. I personally see it as a waste of time ink and money as you look at a disc cover rather than the disc and would rather do them.

Every post in this and every other forums is just each persons opinion. why we always end up with a flaming session is beyond me

i am just stating an opinion, ignore it or learn by it, choice is up to the reader.
i apologise to anyone who has seen fit to take offence for whichever reason they have chosen

my last opinion on discs etc is that for the wii, its difficult enough to find a brand of discs that it likes seeing as it can be quite picky, never mind finding a brand of printable ones it likes too
