I'm not sure how to describe them but I will do the best I can. When playing the original or a back up of a game - what looks to lines of multi colored pixels flash on and off the screen. Not really distorting the image of the screen or effecting gameplay much, but definitely there. Is there anyone else who has these? I'm running the games on a high definition television with the appropriate high def. cables if that means anything.

It's caused by overheating of the graphics card, normally due to it being left in standby with Connect24 turned on. There is nothing you can do about it other than returning your Wii for repair.

lol goddamnit. is there a warning about this happening in the manuel? Obviously I can't send it in for repairs as it's been modded.

Remove the chip and send it in. They'll probably just charge you for an out of warranty repair, which will be cheaper than a new Wii.

I guess i'll just have to see. I didn't install the chip myself, nor have the skills to so myself. So I would have to find someone to remove and then re-install the chip after the repair. goddamnit.

Ok, so I called customer support. They said they would repair it for $65 since the warranty was voided. My only problem now is finding someone to remove my Wiikey, and then re-installing it after it has been repaired. Which sucks because the person who did it for me (www.themodguy.com i think?) is out of business apparently. Does anyone know of any repuatable services that would do this for me?

your next problem may be that they substitute your "chippable" wii for a d2c version rather than repair it

you would be bolloxed then

might be best to put up with a overheating wii

Haha. Goddamnit. I wonder if could request them not to lol. Jesus, but isn't that version still chippable, you just have to sand it down a bit or something? I could find someone who could do that for me if that's what they do?

Well I guess i'm just screwed then. I've researched the issue and apparently it has something to do with the "heatsink" and the over heating of the gpu. Nintendo is aware of the problem and according to the thread I visited, many have sent their Wii's in and have had them repaired. It doesn't have anything to do with the standby mode. It's just simply a defect your Wii may or may not have. Depends on how lucky you are haha. But I guess if you have a modded Wii and have this problem, your screwed. Like me lol.

it depends on how u look at it

at the moment u have a non or little working wii, for a small amount compared to buying new, you get a working wii, if its a d2c u can sell or wait till its chippable or even play all those originals you own on it. it will cost u a few quid to get the chip took out granted but any electrician with a bit of knowledge can remove a chip and clean up the solder so it looks presentable

I've located a professional installer and have explained to them my dilema. This is what I got back from him:

"the problem is the GPU getting overheated. The common fix, is to remove the heatsink, clean off the thermal paste and then add some better paste like artic silver 5 or similar. I have fixed 1 or 2 of those. Another solution would be to get a new base($100 + core(your base)).
I hope i have answered your questions."

It seems that he knows his stuff. Hopefully this can answer questions of others that may share a similar problem with me.

how much did he ask for the 1st fix (remove the heatsink, clean off the thermal paste and then add some better paste like artic silver 5 or similar)

i bet that is a reasonable amount to pay to fix it?

I doubt the heat sink thing will work as most Wiis that have been damaged in this way show the artifacts even when booted cold not just after they've been on a while. The heat sink fix is just closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Your saying that even if repaired one of the two ways this guy is suggesting, it will still show the graphical glitches? He said he has already fixed 2 like this. When I talked to Nintendo customer support, they said that this was an already known issue and would charge me $65 to repair it - what would they do differently than this guy?

Also just to add, my Wii shows the glitches as soon as you boot it up. They aren't very serious untill you start to play a demanding game. The worse I've saw them was with RE4 and CoD3.

All the heatsink/paste repair will do is help keep the Wii cool but if you have issues when it's already cold then it wont help.

Nintendo would just replace your console for either a new or refurbished one. If you're very lucky, you might just get a refurbished D2B but i wouldn't count on it.

Another solution would be to get a new base($100 + core(your base)).

What if he does this? Swap the motherboard?

I'd imagine so. Though it couldn't be more cryptic a description.
