Not being able to afford all of the games you would like is not a reason to steal them.
In life, you will always find that there are things you want that you cannot afford. You just have to chose to buy the things you want/need most with the money you have, and forget about the others.
No matter how rich you become, there will always be something you want but can't have

To put it in another sense, if you decided you would like some new furniture for your house; a new bed, and a new sofa. However you realise that you dont have have enough money to buy them both. You then have to decide which one you need (or want) more

You wouldnt think that it was ok to buy the bed, then just steal the sofa from the shop because you didnt have enough money to buy it.

Just because its easier to steal games than it is a sofa doesn't make it any more right to do so.

If the PS3 is hacked, it will probably kill it off completely. The developers can make games with less effort and cost for the 360 than they can for the PS3. If the PS3 was hacked, then we would have to put up with endless crappy ports from the 360 (even more than we do now). The PS3 is also (alot) cheaper to buy than the PS3. The only reason people buy it now is because of the good games we have designed for the PS3...if these were no longer being made, why would people buy the PS3 anymore?

So true....deciding on how many games for some is like deciding between how many Mercedes for others.

It's a very dangerous statement you are making here. If you say that hacking it will completely kill it, means PS3 is surviving because "fooled" customers who paid 600$ for a gaming station, are doomed to buy (low quality games) not because of their quality but for the gamers' inability to play "backups". It's so sad to see, sony that made the extremely successful PS2, is striving to make quality games.

Its not the making of quality games that has hindered the PS3 but rather the selling off of the exclusives like FF that has made the PS3 less attractive especially when people can already play copied games on XBox!

After almost 2 years now, how valid is the argument that PS3 games are harder to develop? It was the case initially and may still be true, but this is sure to change (or is changing), right? Hacking the PS3 may be great for a handful of pirates, just as flashing the 360 is great for a handful of pirates. My buddy has a 360 and is tech savy, but has no interest in flashing his 360 to play copied games or pirate games.

I also don't buy into the PS3 becoming less attractive due to loss of exclusives to a console that can be modded to play pirated versions. Console modding is not mainstream and never has been. Loss of exclusives - probably in time. Piracy - no. Just my opinion. The PS3 is a solid system regardless

Sorry to change the subject but I don't think the PS3 can or will be hacked because unlike the psp the ps3 is always connected to sony. The playstation network is a direct link to sony. Also the only way we can play games online. The psp isnt connected to sony even if you go online thats why if you have isos and play online you never got banned. With the psp sony doesnt know. The Ps3 sony basically knows everything you do with it. Whether it be games or using the browser, sony knows. Im not sure if I was the only one who read the terms of agreement but it (more or less) shows them everything you use your ps3 for. Like with the invitations to the home beta, it wasnt a random selection but they looked to see who was using the PSN like how they wanted. Whether it be downloading (IMO) boring games like High Velocity Bowling or Pain. If something was to come out. You will be banned before u can even enjoy it.

Thats total bullcrap, your talking about hacking the PS3 to be able to play online. This thread is about hacking the PS3 to play backup games!.

Whats seems to be the problem with hacking it anyway?, it cant be the firmware being updated all the time because they got round that problem with the Wii, which also has firmware updates. Is it possibly because the damn Blue-Ray disks are to expensive to buy right now and not worth it or something?. I think theres something were not being told...

Everything is vulnerable to hacking.

Well sorry for being misinformed.

I dont think the reason is because its too expensive. If it was then it would be up to the gamer to choose to spend the money.

Your also right about the vulnerable thing but face it we dont know who is working on hacking the ps3 or if someone even is

CFW = Custom FirmWare. Its a user modified version of an official firmware.

Ah, Enlightend, thankyou.

Thats a good point you made, who is working on hacking the PS3 right now??, has anyone heard anything?, I'm guessing its all down to money in some way...

it hasnt been hacked (yet) because Sony have done a good job and made the PS3 very secure. No exploits have been found to allow (almost) anything to be done that Sony didnt want, and the things that have been done, sony have acted quickly and stopped it.

I for one hope they keep up the good work.

EDIT: formatting corrected.

The date format is confusing too. Is it dd/mm, mm/dd or mm/yy?

Why not dd/[3 letters of month]/yyyy?

Other than that, we really only need an update when something happens. I kinda enjoy the lack of piracy on PS3. At least it means we won't be tempted.

An eloquent argument, though flawed logic. I shall explain why;

Using your analogy, a "pirate" is not actually walking into a store, seeing the sofa he can not afford, and deciding to walk out with it. Essentially, he is taking along a tape-measure and notebook, gathering all the dimensions and stylings of the sofa. He then goes off to buy materials at cost price, and makes a copy of the sofa he saw. So the questions becomes; Should the guy be able to make the sofa he wants, but can't ever afford, even though someone else designed it?

BTW; I'm not coming down on either side here, I just thought an adjustment to the analogy was necessary, as it could be argued that intellectual property should not be considered the same as acutal property ;-)

lol ok then.
~the sofa wont have a copyright on it... the game DOES!
so your not making a clone as such, from cheap material. it still is stealing because you broke the terms of the copyright.

lmao i'll admit that im a pirate but i tell you what... i wont go around making crappy excuses pmsl

Another question you should ask is why is the B-whatever they are doing as much as they can to sue pirates in the US, UK and other western countries, whist in the east piracy is happening a hell of a lot more! Even to the point they sell the pirated copies in shops in plain sight!

If you ask me they are losing a hell of a lot more in the east but are more concerned about getting thousands of dollars from individuals in the west.

Fair enough.
But that said, do you actually consider yourself a thief? i.e. is what you do the same as walking into a game store and pocketing a few games before walking (running?) out?

"Just because its easier to steal games than it is a sofa doesn't make it any more right to do so."

Expert in Kantian ethics are we....? Didnt think so. Ethically it is indeed considered a greater ill to steal from a store as more offences are commited through the actual act of physical theft rather than cyber theft.

LOL lets just change the topic here. First of all companies are going on about copyright, and breaking this leads to court procedings. Now the thing is that even a legal court seems to be governed by religion, why else did they ask you to put your hand on the bible, even if you dont you are asked to swear in the presence of god or whatever.

Anyway you can argue that from a religion point of view the person claiming copyright is the one committing fraud as the creation of the media was not from them but given to them by a god and hence truely belongs to god and that it whould be god who should request for the breach in copyright.

Bah anyway you get my stupid point, but wouldnt it be fun to see what happens if someone tried that :P
