Noob Question for Wii Key install

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if you can help me with a Wii Key install. I have read through many parts of the forum and still cannot get my chip to work. I kinda screwed things up as I was missing a contact point on my drive board. The chip legs are intact. I found a thread showing the different board variations and from what I understand, The 3rd wii chip contact point must be soldered to the chip leg directly. The questions I have are the following:
1. Do I have to use flux?
2. Do I have to use a setup disc to activate the chip?
3. Is version 1.2 the newest non-leaked version of the set-up disc?
4. Is there a good way to ensure my chip is working?

Thanks for all your help. I know noobs like me may be annoying, but I am hoping to learn from you and thank you for time.

I have purchased backups from Hong Kong. They do not load at all :(
How can you ensure that the chip is installed properly? I just bought a multimeter. What is the best way to test the chip? All original games seem to boot up fine. Thanks for the help.

imports wont work unless u install the config disk and turn on region override.
