ok, if you're going to buy a premod and you want to play on Live, then get a premod with ixtreme. if not, then just get whatever because backups are harder to make with ixtreme unless you buy specially flashed samsung dvd drives flashed with kreon firmware.
backups arent't much harder to make except for the stealthed backups, but you don't need to worry about those unless you're playing on Live.
and if you go that route, just get the above samsung, it'll make your life much easier :D

so if i just buy an elite or premeium system that has been pre-modded i cannot play on live ? not a great loss lol, and it is easier to make back ups with these machines than it is with an ixtreme machine ? please confirm i intend to purchase today
P.S are the back ups similar to making ps2 back ups ? i can do ps2 back ups and are modded machines still limited to regions ie PAL and NTSC ?

i would go ahead any get an ixtreme modded console and spend 20 bucks on the samsung SH-D62C dvd rom drive preflashed with Kreon .81 off of ebay, that completely automates the copying process, for ixtreme or not, makes copying easier.
burning games for a 360 is a 2 step process. first you have to rip it with xbox backup creator or schtrom extactor with your samsung drive. then you set the layer break and crap in ImgBurn and burn on Verbatim DVD+R DL discs, you should have zero problems.
hmmm, i'm not sure. i haven't experimented with imports, but i think you're limited to NTSC or PAL, depending on your console

That's exactly what I do and no problems playing backups. Haven't tried playing online though.

@ Budro i have been reading for a while on backups and it all is really unclear and i feel like i am walking on pins and needles when it comes to backing up my 360 games so i am going to try and simplify this question the best i can. if i were to buy a samsung DVD burner what model should i get and once i had this burner and the software to rip the game to my hard drive and the software to burn it with, what would i need to be done to my XBOX 360 in order to play the back up and be able to do so online?

you will need a samsung sh-d162c flashed with kreon firmware. that way you can just put a 360 game in your pc and do a 1:1 copy of it using either xbox backup creator or schtrom. this will put an iso image file onto your Hard drive, you then need a dual layer burner to burn this image onto a dual layer disk. the pioneer 111d comes highly recommended but there are other drives that work just fine.
you then have to flash your 360's dvd drive with ixtreme to play this back up on live. search google for textbook's noob guide and it will explain everything you need to do in there.
