Internet connection problem with the 360

So i'm in the basement with my laptop wirelessly connected to the router upstairs.. so i connected my 360 to my laptop for the internet connection, which works...
The problem is that when i'm playin online games like COD4 and stuff, the game always puts me as the host... but i don't have a great connection, so everyone else starts complaning that it is laggin, while it doesn't lag for me (host advantage)....
I think this is happening because the game thinks that i have the fast connection that the laptop pushes through with the ethernet cable while my actual internet connection is pretty shitty (i can stream videos pretty easily to my 360 with the good ethernet cable), so i have a real hard time playin games online... so i was wondering if anyone has a solution for this problem...

even if it thought you had a 1Mbit connection, that's really not that good by itself, so that's kind of strange, that's considered extremely slow these days in age.
are u running anything on the laptop when everyone's complaining of lag?
how far is the router from where your at, u could just run an ethernet cable the length and then roll it up when ur done or something.

hey i don't know if it's 1mbit, i jsut assumed it was... but i meant whatever the speed that an ethernet cable can push through.. because streaming is really good between the laptop and the 360...
My router is on the top floor of the house... and the 360 is in the basement so i can't actually bring a cable down, cuz it's like 2-3 floors..
Can anybody else help or know how to fix this problem???

is there a common wall the router and 360 share, like one that flows all the way up to the top floor? then u could drop one through the wall :-)

no, the laptop is connected to the router wirelessly

That setup will work fine. In the future you may want to upgrade to maybe wireless G or some of the new wireless standards that will improve your wirelss speed and bandwidth. Make sure the laptop isnt compiling a movie while you are playing. And maybe look at some higher range antenna and possiable new routher f/w that will allow you to crank up the power on the antenna.

Getting the 360 its own wireless would help a bit. A cheap solution is to buy another wireless router, (20$ on ebay) and use that as a wireless card. Stick it buy a window or stairway and you wont need the laptop.

so just buyin a regular router will recognize the one upstairs?
or is it something like a router extender or whatever those are called?

yea a router is just a really smart nic card. Its crazy that m$'s 360 wireless nic card is 100$. To get around this one can use the 50$ adapter made by someone else or you can use another router.
