It's just a good business decision. As the report says, Sony will still oversee the production but the sale will offset it's losses being suffered by its gaming division. So as far as the PS3 is concerned, nothing will change.

Yeah sure Sony will oversee production but what if the owner (Toshiba) pulls tha plug on the cell processor production?!? I mean if in fact the sale does in fact happen.

I'm sure Toshiba will be tied into a deal for many years to come. It wouldn't make sense for Sony to agree to anything else would it?

I'm pretty sure I read that Toshiba is just buying the manufacturing facility. This is the processor of the future. I don't see it going anywhere.

Hmm well for a house hold pc i doubt it, just cause cpus do what they do best, but for things like super computers, that maybee i can see working in that favor. But super computers are a lot of recycled crap i think anyways

This just means that Sony is also letting other companies have the benefits of cell processor not "getting out of the cell procesesor buisness

They are trying to make up for some of the monetary losses they have felt on the PS3 to make it more profitable faster, allowing them to further drop the price and better compete with Microsoft and Nintendo. Its a good business move gien their current martket positioning. Nothing will chnage on the consumer level, and Toshiba will have to sign so many contracts they won't be able to red light production if they feel like it. Nothing much to see here guys, just business.
