Ok firstly, I tried replying to a thread already about this topic but it was a thread from last year so it wouldn't let me reply, therefore mods it's not my fault that I had to start a new one.
I'm thinking of getting a silver PSP slim from Japan since they don't have silver ones here in Australia. However before I do so I want to know if it's possible to change the O - Select/X - Cancel configuration Japanese PSPs use to the X - Select/O - Cancel configuration most of the world uses. Is it possible to do this? I read that if you install the US firmware instead of Japanese, it'll change the button configuration so that X is select and O is cancel. Is this true?
If not, is there a way to do so permanently if I got 3.60 m33 running on it? Thanks
you will definitely run into trouble if you put US firmware on a Japanese psp...wait until you get the custom firmware cooking and then you can change the button configuration in the recovery console.
I suggest that you get a regular black PSP slim from the US, and try to look for a silver case... I know it may not be easy, but I'm sure there are some out there, and if not very soon... eBay might have them.

Whatever way the button setup is when you first buy it is they way it will still be even if you install say japanese firmware. I had a black US psp with JP firmware installed on it and the buttons remained the same. if the button setup isnt to your liking you can swap them in the recovery menu like deez said.

I had a US psp with JP firmware on it one time. Didnt swap buttons. Anyhow if the buttons dont come to your liking u can change them with 3.60 M33. Since you have to order yours overseas either way the american PSP comes in the ice silver edition also.

Not true at all. I had a white japanese PSP with american firmware and I also had an american PSP with japan firmware.
Thanks. Yeah I checked on eBay but it looks like they don't sell the silver slim core pack yet right? Only the daxter pack seems to be selling. Any idea when the silver core pack will come out in the US?

No, but you can check from time to time... I have no idea when it will come out.
