Cant wait! hopefully will be included in MGS4

Lets be fair tilt is a bit (actually) a lot! useless and I have to agree it with XBOX and Wii fanboys that it was tacked on.

It adds absolutely nothing positive to games just makes control difficult.

ign confirmed it while playing a demo of burnout paradise at a pre tokyo EA show. and its next gen rumble not like the ps2's or 360's rumble.

the product will now contain Immersion's Feel The Game® TouchSense® Technology logo. Sony has not ?officially? confirmed a new Sixaxis controller that will incorporate this new technology

Its official
Quote:
[7:04] Dual Shock 3 is now official.

[7:05] "This came from listening to users, who said that they wanted a vibration function on the PS3," says Hirai.

[7:06] Sony introduced the Sixaxis, but Hirai says the company realized users wanted DualShock. At first, they "thought it would be too difficult, but they have managed to overcome this difficulty." Unclear if he means technology or Sony's legal battle with Immersion.

[7:07] The Dual Shock 3 looks exactly like the Sixaxis, and will launch in Japan in November, and North American and Europe in spring 2008. No exact date or pricing are mentioned, nor does he say whether it has to be bought separately or will be bundled with future PS3s.

[7:07] Games that will use the Dual Shock 3's rumble function include DMC 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

[7:08] As soon as the vibration function was decided upon, Sony announced it to their partners, although there was little time to add it to games before TGS. That said, 11 games so far have incorporated the the function.

[7:09] As for existing titles, they can be updated via the PlayStation Network so they can use the vibration function, says Hirai.

[7:10] Hirai says this updating is a result of how the game industry is moving rapidly towards a networked world.

hope this makes sense

here's the official press release:

DUALSHOCK®3 WIRELESS CONTROLLER WITH RUMBLE FEATURE TO BE INTRODUCED FOR PLAYSTATION®3

Tokyo, September 20, 2007 ? Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that it would release DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller, a new controller for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3®) incorporating a rumble feature, in Japan in November as a separately sold accessory. It inherits the basic design and functionality of the popular
PlayStation® controller, while keeping the high-precision, high response motion sensitive sixaxis sensing system. Introduction to North American and European markets is expected in Spring 2008.

The added rumble feature, combined with the highly realistic motion sensitive sixaxis sensing system, takes gamers deeper into the world of interactivity, delivering a more intuitive, realistic and immersive game play experience. The new controller will also benefit PS3 content creators, by giving them the ability to further expand their creative imagination.

PS3 titles that are already in the market may become compatible with the rumble feature through software update. With DUALSHOCK 3 and the attractive lineup of PS3 titles incorporating the rumble feature, SCEI will introduce more new ways of enjoyment that can only be found on PS3, and will further redefine the world of entertainment.

The dualshock 3 is due for release in Japan in November. If it works with my ps2 and ps1 games then I'm ordering one from Japan. Is there any reason it wouldn't work on my US ps3?

They should have just put 8 lights, then we could play four on four sports games and stuff eh?

would of been a lot simpler to make it even, like you said 8, for multi-player purpose.

We have dual shock controllers now available in North America. I seem to recall watching a show called Reviews on the run and they reviewed a controller made by logitech and it has built in rumble. But Im sure until we get a patch or games that have the rumble feature its pretty useless.

I would like to see if the Japanese controllers are compatible with our US PS3's as well. I would def like to get my hands on at least two as early as possible. Then again, they may not be supported here until the official US release.

I must admit, the six axis is a novelty, if i can get away with not using it, i'd rather use normal controls, like on WArhawk, and i DO miss rumble. This is great news.

60gb launch PS3.....50" Sony Bravia.....LG 5.1 surround..... gaming heaven.

Does anyone have any idea on what the weight would be and how much longer will the battery last (currently 2 hours charge gives you 30 hours play)???

The Dualshock would only work on PS1/2 games, and even with patches might not work on PS3 games.
I think the reason there is a 7 controller limit is something to do with the amount of devices Bluetooth technology supports, 8 controllers can be used if one of them is running of a USB port.
I really wish they would do some kind of trade in deal for people with current controllers, but luckily I've still only got my launch one as I always new rumble would be released eventually. And Sony have already said that imported ones from Japan will work fine on other region consoles, so thats how Im getting mine.
