Jap Wii upgrading with a US ntsc game

When I bought my jap wii, the storekeeper who sold me the wii told me to never upgrade it with an english cd (US/Europe wii games) or else it might brick or semi-brick. Since it was like 2 months ago, I wondered if the problem is fixed or if there is a solution and if my jap wii will brick if I upgrade a jap wii with an "english" game. Sorry if this was already asked, I briefly looked through this forum and other places for the answer but didn't find it.
