Nor me. It's a fairly good graphics card. I was having problems with Final Fantasy 7 too which refuses to work too. Kinda sucks cos two great games refusing to work cos of my graphics cards. Ah well, always got Pro Evolution Soccer 3 and Halo to fall back on for now!

I haven't played Halo too much - I got Max Payne 2 around the same time so my attention was diverted there.

I can't think of any other games in that genre but if you like RPGs, Neverwinter Nights is very good. I personally don't like RPGs but I got well into NWN.

Resi Evil 1, 2, 3 on the PC work fine - I have those three.

For some reason when I installed the detonator thing and went into desktop properties, settings, advance. When I clicked the NVidia tab, it said it'd caused an error in desk.cpl and kept closing the desktop thing down. Led me to believe it wasn't working properly which was rather strange. Damn NVidia!

I was before installing a driver from nvidia.com. Go to www.gainward.com and find your specific driver from there. I installed it from there and although the game still doesn't work, the driver is newer than my previous one and seemingly works perfectly.

But after looking over more forums I think you're right - the graphics card just isn't up to the job although on the same token, I think they ought to and may eventually release a patch for this.

"This game requires a video card with a minimum of 32MB VRAM and programmable Vertex/Pixel Shader support. The application will now close."
2. The GeForce4MX does not have programmable-anything shaders. The Geforce3 and GeForce4Ti series and beyond have programmable shaders. Refer to my rant on the GF4MX vs GF4Ti for more info.

Oh sorry about the email addresses. My bad.

So there's absolutely nothing that can be done about it short of buying a new GFX card?

That's gotta suck.

neney1& av_3000,
I don't mind a good discussion but could the both of you talk maybe a IM or your own email accounts? Praetor and I are here to help you anyway we possibly can but this thread is sorta turned out to be a "gossip" column.

Shoey :)

Unfortunately I susppect there is nothing short of buying a new video card that will alleviate your problem. As I said before, the GeForce4MX simply does not have programmable shaders and if the game says it needs programmable shaders then you out totally out of luck. No about of tweaking will get those shaders for you (short of tracing out copper paths and soldering capacitors :P on the card itself). :-)

Ok, i know there have been dozens of submissions regarding how to make Silent HIll 3 work with certain gfx cards. All the issues i have read about don't really deal with the problem i'm having even though i've tried some of them in the hope that maybe mine is the same but occurs at a different part of the game.

The issue i've got is startign the REAL game, and not the fairgroudn/dream part. When i comes to loading the fairground part it is fine and i can play that, i ever get the motion videos too but it's when i start playing the real game that i get the problem.

Well, it simply crashes and come out the game and returns to windows. No error messages, no error logs. Nada!

I have updated my codec (but i don't think that's the problem as it's run ok up to this point), my nVidia drivers and running at the requested update level (45.23) and i've even tried running it with 3danalyse both 2.31 AND 2.26.

I am running a 2.6 Gig Pentium 4 machine, ample hdd space, with a GeForce FX 5200.

Is there anything anyone can suggestt hat might help? i am at the end of my tether and am gonna cry!!! :(

Oh, it's the DVD version too :)

Thanks
Bassrunna

I overclocked that video card through my BIOS and used various "tweak" programs to get SH3 to play. The video graphic detail was "below average" and slow In other words, it really wasn't worth the effort m8. That is why I purchased the nVidia GeForce FX5600(256 DDR) video card for 149.99 at Newegg.com

Right, crack it!! :) I mean, i got it working right :)

I found out that i couldn't load staright into a saved game from hte main menu, i had to start a new game and then load from inside the new game. Not sure why it works like that but it does!

strange how simple things resolve such HUGE issues :) thanks guys!
