=-=-=-=FOR EVERYONE THAT NEEDS AN EASY UPDATE TO 1.9B AND 1.3 WII KEY SETUP DISC!=-=-=-=

Step by step, tested and works! Step:
1. Go to www.wiikey.cn/ and download 1.9b update and 1.3 wiikey setup disc.
2. Open your burning program and write from an image file 1.9b update and whatever region your wii is and choose DVD. The file SHOULD be 40,704kb (39.7mb)
3. Chuck in your update and follow prompts to update.
4. Do the same burn process with the Wiikey Setup Disc. The file SHOULD be 6,656kb(6.50mb).
5. Chuck in your wii key setup disc 1.3 and configure how you want your wiichip should be.

I hope this helps alot of mixed messages going on out there.
I know this will be flamed by people saying that you need to use filechop and fixsize but this is how i updated my wii and it 1.9b with no problems. Have fun! (im active so if you got any Q's im here, peace) -sLibs

sorry, of course i mean 3.0e, i mixed up with psp firmware i guess.

i read that 3.03 causes troubles with reading config and update discs and so on ... so i thought it's better to update the key before the wii.

so the wii sees my dvd+r update disc, thinks its a game cube disc, it starts, and suddenly i have a black screen and nothing .. oh i use the wavebird as a controller ...

actually i am not sure about the version of my key, because i bought it built in and theyjust told me it's the newest, but that was just a few days before the 1.9b got official ...

so i am usure what to do ...

i did not read it, i guess we post at the same time ...

but thats what i did, i got the update 1.9b read the manuel, started to swear because there was no filechop.exe downloaded the config disc, there was this exe, batched the file burned it ...

i had a lot of troubles with dvd-r they dont seem to work with my wii, so i use dvd+r, so i thought thats the reason why its not working, because every manual says you have to use dvd-r .... but the wii sees the dsic and knows its gc, but it just restes instead of updating after starting it ...

There are mixed messages because what you posted will not work for everyone - myself included and believe me when I say I know what I'm doing! Some drives will just report a bad disk if you don't pad it out to 1.4GB in size.

when you burn it with nero the disc automatically burns it so the dvd is 1.4gb, dont ask me how but it just does, it may sound stupid but this is my experience

Nero does that if you select the option for burning it in full DVD compatibility mode. Alas, ImgBurn doesn't have that option!

Not everyone wants to install Nero as it's an over-inflated piece of software compared to ImgBurn. Plus, the thread is discussing problems using Imgburn....

However, it does explain why yours worked first time. want to post a step by step in using Nero (and enabling the DVD compatibility mode) for others having issues?

for those of you who can't get the config disk 1.3 to work, it is probably because you have updated to wii firmware version 3.x . what you need to do is download gcos - this program will let you boot the disk. Nintendo programmed the new firmware not to boot the config disk if you insert it directly, it's got to be booted.

also, about burning, 2x is not necessarily the best choice. the wii reads dvdrs at either 3x or 6x. when a disk is burned at 2x, the wii will load the games incredibly slowly. when a disk is burned at 4x, i notice fairly large gains in the wii's read speeds. Menus come up faster, things are loaded quicker. Leads me to believe that if you burn at 2x, wii will load at 3x; burn at 4x, wii will load at 6x.

There is no relationship between what speed you write at and what speed the Wii reads the discs at!!!

As a rule, always burn as slow as possible and VERIFY the burn. A lot of people don't do the verify and wonder why they have problems.

thats what i used to think until i noticed a change and tested it out with several games. in my experience, games load much faster when burned at 4x rather than 2x.

I understand what you are trying to imply, but I can assure you that there is no way the Wii will know what speed the discs were burned at. Remember, it's not even looking for a DVD-R - it's expecting a pressed DVD-ROM.

I have been dealing with recordable CD/DVD media for over 10 years and can assure you that in no way would burning a disc at a slower rate cause a device to read them slower.

koondyth has the answear to the problem. I had to use the gcos and the set up disk load up fine but I had to use a gc controller because the reset trick did not work for me.

I know it makes no sense, i've been burning backups for years and in the past i have always burned as slow as possible. maybe it's just my burner and media, but the wii definitely loads the games much faster when i burn it at 4x. I've tested it on one other game and the 4x one always loads faster (through the credits, the game menus and even the pause screen comes up faster). I use tdk dvdr- with an nec burner and nero. I just thought i would throw it out there in case it works for someone else as well.

Do you always verify your media? FTR, I find burning Arita DVD-R at 4x more reliable than at 2x or 8x. It has nothing to do with the write speed per-se, just how the data is written onto the disc itself. I will repeat what I said earlier - on no account can the Wii detect what speed you've written a disc at.

slibs when you posted that nero can burn the update and config disc on 29. September 2007 @ 07:16 you agreed that to make the disc 1.4 gbs big you have to put it in full dvd compatible mode... how exactly do you enable that feature?

Open Nero - click on Recorder / Choose Recorder.

Click on Options >> and ensure that "DVD High Compatibility Mode" is ticked.

Why not use DVD-R? They're much more compatible! You can try DVD+R as they're supposed to work ok.
