This reminds me of the early days of PS2 modding. Lots O fun!

The 'unhackable' Wii gets hacked, '30 wire' D2C mod on its way

We have received a tip that a European online retailer is to commence selling the first and only mod chip for the previously 'unhackable' D2C chipset Wii. It will reportedly go on sale in 10 days time but there is a huge catch, it requires a 30 WIRE installation. The features it boasts are as follows: Actel IC, Direct boot Wii & GC games, Multi Disk support, GC audio streaming fix and patrial region patch for GC and Wii games. The suggested retail price will be 37 Euro's.

sounds like that is too much work , I guess the old razorblade between the chip legs will make a comeback .

LOL yeah, that brings back memories. I actually don't mind doing a mod like this just as long as I don't get too many requests from friends. For myself, I am very confident in doing microsoldering like this but I'm sure I'll be telling alot of people no when they ask me to do theirs. (by the way, I have a D2A with a wiikey so I'm not going to even mess with this mod)

I'd imagine the next gen of D2C chips will come with pre-set wires you can just solder onto the board in strips. At least I'd hope so.

I bet the pro modders will be charging a fortune to mod D2C's.

the strange thing is that they are all soldered around the Ic chip you would think they would just make a solderless that would plug right on top

I agree with one of the other posts on this board. It seems it would be every easy to make a chip that sat right on top of the other d2c. Then you'd only have to solder 2 points, power and ground. Also the razor blade idea is awesome. I actually might attempt this for a friend after that idea. But first, does anyone know of anywhere that will install a modchip for you? Or anywhere you can buy a premodded wii? I have been all over the forum and keep coming across dead links and obsolete websites. Any current information would be great.

a solderless mod chip would be nice but i'm guessing either a) they will come out with one in the future, or b) a solderless chip clipping on top would interfere with reassembling the wii.

not only would it interfere with reassembling (not much space above that chip) but there would have to be a way to secure it tightly to the top of the chip. On the xbox1 and 360 there were screws that were used to make sure that it didn't slip. I don't see anywhere close to that chip where a screw could be used. Hell, if one of you come up with a solution then you could market it yourself (and then get your house raided) LOL
