I was thinking of fixing it up and slowly amassing parts to create a complete Xbox 360 system. From the description; its a typical Red Ring system.

I'm somewhat handy with opening up electronic devices and messing with them (I've opened my PSP and PS2 in the past). How hard is it for me as an end-user to repair an Xbox 360 (it has no warranty; the seal's been broken)? I was hoping some of you were familiar with DIY 360 repairs and could pass along anything that might help.

for the 3RLoD, a DIY is easy enough. X Clamp mod. worked for my friend, still working too

Yeah, I've studied those and they sound like they work well.

Though, I hear MS is even replacing voided warranty consoles right now so I may consider that option first (it'll take longer but I'll have less to worry about).

that's a good idea. but yeah, the x clamp works great if MS doesn't fix your 360

I have another question: is the E67 hard drive error console-specific or related to the hard drive? Because if its related to the console that was using it, I can get a cheap E67'd hard drive to use with my project.

your 360 still has warranty if the xbox hasnt been opened security seal still intact and not been flashed just send it to them to fix
or even if it is flashed if you can get the key off it to flash back to original then go onto ebay buy a microsoft scurity seal and put it back on and send it to them . some mates of mine have said some people have sent their xbox's back with the flashed firmware and microsoft have still fixed it but i suggest flashing it back to original first

Well, this system ended up being unregistered so now it really is mine and MS sent a 360 coffin to send this thing back in.

Now all I need to find out is if they'll fix it without a valid warranty sticker.

E67 is related to the an error with the hard drive. If it doesnt have the warranty seal and is out of warranty date your going to have to pay them to fix whatever is wrong with it.

Odds are you will have to pay for it, but I'm not certain. Only time will tell, but I would still recommend the X-clamp mod if you're not looking to go broke over this lol

People on MaxConsole's forums are claiming that they get their modified consoles back repaired (they're..."un-modded" when they get them back but they get them back nonetheless). Those obviously have broken warranty seals so unless some 60 different people are all committing to the same lie; this is at least worth a try for an unmodified console that has just been opened once in its life.

You can open your console without breaking the warranty seal. There are a couple methods in which people do it and you cannot tell its been tampered with by the naked eye.

Also to reply to your first post. If your buying individual xbox 360 parts to make a complete you need to take caution. There are certain componets that are married. For example the dvd drive is married to the motherboard. If you buy a motherboard without the dvd drive key it will be confined to just a dvd player and wont read games.

Oh no, I'm not actually assembling the console itself. I mean I'm assembling the components of a complete 360 package. The console I got is a complete console.

Uh, just to give everyone the update; MS gave me a brand new Xbox 360.

So...yeah, it worked out in the end.

Boy that does sound really bad. Why the fuck do people post their store swapping confessions anyways?

For the feds to track them down and nab them for retail fraud. Felony = punishable by 5 years in prison.

Feds certainly wouldn't waste their time on something like that (the rent a center swap), but Karma is a bitch. It comes back and bite everyone in the butt. I guess people post that kind of stuff, because they are proud that they got over on a company.

Yep... it does. I'm on my second one from eBay. I already have a friend who wants to buy it when it comes back from MS.

You just have to make sure it has never been registered with MS before you buy it as the warranty only extends to the original owner.
