I bought a used system. The system had a 3RoL, and I bought it when it was fresh from repair. It has protective plastic on the DVD-unit and such.. so I wonder if it's not a completely new system. Anyhow, now I wonder if I dare softmodding the system with the removing of warranty stickers.
Is a system that has had a 3RoL likely to have it again, or has the problem now been soloved?
Also, I wonder if "getting banned on Xbox-live" with a softmod applies to downloading demos and trailers, registering achievements, or just playing actual online matches? Can I keep downloading demos and so on with a softmod and be safe, or can't I go online at all?
the most common fix now for a do it yourself fix for the red ring of death is the x-clamp mod.ive never done it myself buts its fairly easy to be done judging from the guide. and i dont think you would be banned for doing this but you might ya never know. last but not least for the warrenty sticker a hair dryer is your friend.
Getting banned means totally banned... no matches, demos, movies, etc. You can't connect, period.
I bought a complete premium system, 3rol, off eBay a month and a half ago. Once I received it from the seller I shipped it right off the the 360 repair center.
When I got it back, it had a new case with a 8/17/07 mfg date. The metal tray was used. The mobo wasn't the one I sent in (I marked the original one) and it was repaired, not new. I know the tray and mobo were used as they still has dust where the fans were. It did have the new heatsink and revised x-clamps.
They did, however, replace the Hitachi drive, which worked fine, with a Benq. And I've read that alot of ppl have been getting Benq's back from the repair center lately.
Completely banned, huh? Well.. that sucks. I was hoping the ban would only prevent me from playing multiplayer games :\ I guess I'll have to keep off xbox live if I decide to softmod my xbox then.
I assume it will not be possible to spoof a new machine ID on xbox live anytime soon, perhaps one should just take a leap of faith and hope not to get banned ;)
I understand users of Xtreme firmware can get banned pretty easily, but not users of iXtreme.. Why is that? What separates the two?
And yeah, if I brick the thing I guess I'll have to do the x-clamp mod.. Although I will try the hairdryer first ;) I saw a video with a guy doing the hairdryer trick, so it's atleast very possible :)
Right now it's believed improperly made backups are the root of the bannings. The iXtreme firmware won't boot backups which weren't correctly made, Xtreme will boot them all.
