okay I'm on my last 8 gigs on my ps3 so i was gonna go out and buy a 500 gig external usb hard drive and i also want to use it to transfer files from my pc. so i was wondering do i have to have 2 partitions one for the ps3 and one for the pc or will the ps3 and my pc both recognize the same hard drive with all the same files?

Try a google search, lol. From what I understand, that should work. The drive needs to be formatted in FAT for the PS3 to recognize it, and Windows can read from FAT drives as well. The only problem you might have is if you reformat the drive (because it isn't already FAT - which it may be) you'll lose any info on it. Also, a virus won't effect the PS3 or Linux unless you open it since it's not in you system files. (like %80 sure)

Id go for an internal myself 300gigs is the largest internal u can get atm. It takes a sata 2.5" hdd basically a laptop hard drive. and as for transfering files u can just use a media server like tversity or mediahome.

yea but if i go internal it's best to go with 200 gig and a 5400 or (7200 rpm combo not too sure) because i heard if you get a 250 with 5400 rpm it heats up too much and the 200 is probably better balanced with a 5400 rpm
i don't think i heard of a 300 gig one last i checked 250 was the largest 2.5 inch?

There is a 300gig made by Fujitsu, Ive been unable to find a retailer for it though besides its only 4800rpm. As for the 250 gig hdd Ive never heard of the heating problem until now so idk much about that.
