I'm sure some of you are aware of the growing problem with Halo 3 not working on the Limited Edition versions, because of the casing and the scratches. Well, the problem can also happen with any other version of Halo 3. If you own Halo 3, you better make dang sure you don't scratch the disk. I played it for a little bit, it had a very small scratch on it after a few hours, but it was enough to give me the "players failed to load content" error. This error basically makes your copy of Halo 3, unplayable. It won't load the maps.

I was lucky enough to get it replaced, but most retailers won't exchange it, if it's not the limited edition version.

Just thought I'd bring this to everyone's attention, before they end up with a drink coaster.

Just another case of why people should be able to legally back up their bought games. Then you would always be playing the back up rather than the original and situations like these would not happen.

Actually you don't have to call. Just go here They (Micro$oft) will replace your Halo 3 limited edition disks for free until February 2008.

Peace

As long as you have a receipt, Gamestop/EB HAS to exchange it. They sold you a defective product, which is their responsibility to exchange as well, because it was purchased from their store. I tried to get mine exchanged, but I lost the receipt and EB doesn't exchange without a receipt. I just went to Wal*Mart and told them I bought it there. Haha. Exchanged it, with no problems. Gotta love Wal*Mart.

However, in the Halo 3 situation you couldn't really backup the game (at least from your original) as they came loose during shipping and got scratched to the point of being unreadable before it even gets into your hands.

But yes, things like this are a very strong, valid point as a reason of making backups.

Pop_Smith, quite true. Most people just truely got ripped off. Waiting in line or camping out to get this game. Paying the extra money for special (nothing special about it, same darn game) editions of Halo 3. Then getting home only to find out that they can not even play it.

But, i made my statement because in this particular thread he stated that he played it for a couple of hours and then it got a little scratch.

I forgot to mention, if anyone encounters this problem, also make sure you don't try to load the campaign. When my first copy failed to load maps, I went to check and see if Campaign would work. NOPE! The 360 will "try" to load it, but in the process, the disk was scratched around the outside, in a ring fashion. A friend of mine confirmed this happening with his copy, as well.

If this happens, most retailers will look at you and say, "Well, this is a problem that your 360 caused, not the packaging."

Of course you could just go the Microsoft route, and wait for a couple weeks for them to send you a new copy as Pop_Smith stated.

I would guess Microsoft made Bungie rush Halo 3 because of the hype, and these types of errors weren't tested enough.

It's sad to think that one little scratch, can screw up the entire game...

It isn't just the cases that cause the error, it's the scratches the cases made. You don't need a defective case to get a scratch on the disk, so yes, all versions of Halo 3 can stop working over a simple scratch.
