get a friend with a custom firmware psp (oe, m33) or 1.50. you need a pandora's battery to go to 1.50. then you can hava a chance of doing it

custom psp firmware is firmware that lets you paly ISO files, it has nothing to do with your ta-0xx motherboard. pandora is a battery and witha special memory stick that u can make... u can by urself downgrade your psp universaly to 1.50 and u need to be on 1.50 to install custom firmware. if u brick u cannot use it anymroe....but if u brick u can revive ur psp with pandora.

Nothing is 100% safe but if you do the steps properly and don't do anything stupid then it will be as close to 100% as you can get.
Listen very carefully.
You have an official 3.71 PSP which can only be downgraded using a Pandora Battery. In order to create a Pandora Battery you need to have a PSP FAT that has 1.50 or custom firmware on it.
This is due to unsigned code that needs to be ran on the PSP to create the Battery and Magic Memory Stick. Your official PSP can not run unsigned code to create it. That is why you need a PSP that has 1.50 or custom firmware on it because they can run unsigned code that needs to be run.
So if you know someone that has a PSP with 1.50 or custom firmware installed on it ask them to help you create a Pandora battery so you can downgrade your PSP to 1.50 firmware.
HERE is a guide that shows the steps to creating the Pandora Battery.

only tutorial you will find for 3.71 is one to pandora's battery. downgrading is straightforward once you see the screen.
my fat psp was a ta-082 with 3.51; firmware version is nothing. using pandora's battery is a fail-safe method. it's guaranteed to work, when created right.

fat is referring to the original psp. so whenever you see fat psp, it's the original. if it says psp slim, it's the new slim psp.
pandora's battery is a unbricker/downgrader in one. if you go into a full brick, meaning the psp won't start, you can use it to revive it. when it's works again, it will be at 1.50. it is recommended to upgrade to custom firmware, as it makes things easier.

highly recommended to go with custom firmware. staying on 1.50 is restrictive.
once you've downgraded to 1.50, we'll post the next steps. it'll be less confusing that way.

not a new memory stick. u need anything larger then 32 mb will be fine. however... u can flash ur battery back to normal if you want... its better to have an extra battery just in case tho.

all your stuff will probly be fine. just follow the instructions. you can format your memory stick and your battery can be returned to normal. you do not need anything else exept a psp with homebrew ability.
