So I read all the tutorials and did a vast search of the whole database. and Yes, I did find some answers. but I'm even more confused now then when I started this venture.... I have a brand new PSP(9/30/07 purchase) its version "K" Above the barcode (which is ver 2.00 or higher on the tutorial here). I DL'd some games one is an ISO the other is a CSO. I put them both in the I:\PSP\ dir and the I:\PSP\ISO and ever other DIR that was recomended... so here is my question, and I'f I'm just stupid, then by all means flame on...

1) Do I need to Downgrade my firmware to 1.5 to use the ISO/CSO files?

2) Will the UMB Emulator (and others like it) work on my ver (3.0 or 3.5, I have no idea) to run the ISO/CSO.

As you can see they are basic questions. but I'm so confused any (1st grader level) help would be most appreciated.

Thanks all!
Flame on!

first, you will need to run custom firmware. it makes things easier running cfw.

second, the ISO folder is in the wrong place. it goes in the root of the memory stick. (I:\ISO)

Thanks for the reply cee43ja1, When you talk about custom firmware, is that downgrading? or is that a software I install? and what is cfw?

And I moved my dir like you said I:\ISO (all caps).

cfw = custom firmware

custom firmware does require downgrading. it has to be downgraded back to 1.50, but then you have choices on what custom firmware you want to use.

do you have a fat psp or a psp slim? that determines what to do next.

if it's the fat, the umd door is ejected with the slide on the top and has the iR port on top. if it's the slim, the umd door is pulled open, and the wifi switch is where the iR port should be.

How to Install M33 Updates: (M33 Firmwares only)

ALL M33 UPDATES CONTAIN THE PREVIOUS UPDATES. (E.G. Update 4 contains update 1, 2, and 3.

* Download the update. http://www.sendspace.com/file/reyie2
* Place the update folder in the following directory; 'X:/PSP/GAME150/'
* Run the update from your XMB, under GAME > Memory Stick.

There you go 3.52M33-4
now on to 3.71m33
you will need
3.71 M33: http://www.psp-vault.com/UpDownload-req-...ls-lid-2140.psp
and 3.71 Update file: http://www.psp-vault.com/UpDownload-req-getit-lid-2123.psp

Installation instructions:

First method for both psp, the prefered when possible:

Requeriments: a fat psp slim with 3.52 M33-3 or 3.52 M33-4. Previous versions of M33 won't work,

due to a bug that affects them and OE; or a psp slim with 3.60 M33.

- Copy the UPDATE directory into /PSP/GAME/UPDATE and copy the EBOOT.PBP of the 3.71 Sony updater

there but with name "371.PBP". Note: the program will not even show if you copy it to a different folder than that.

- If you are in the fat psp, make sure you have configured the psp to run the game folder in the 3.XX kernel.

- Execute the program, it requires 78% of battery. If you have idstorage corrupted due to a downgrader, the program

will ask you to correct it automatically so the update can continue.

- Press X, and the Sony updater will begin. Sit and enjoy while Sony code installs 3.71 M33 :)

- When finished, the updater will ask you to reboot (pressing X or O). DO IT. Do not skip this step

shutting down the psp by yourself, or you'll end with a brick.

- You should be now in 3.71 M33

All you need to do now is get the updates,you can get these here

going from 3.52 m33-4 to 3.71 m33 is completely optional. 3.52 m33-4 is more stable than 3.71 m33-2 with the 1.50 patch.
