In order to downgrade the official 3.71, you need "pandoras battery"...from what I read. I also read that you cannot do it w/o another psp that already has custom firmware. My question is, why can't you just download it and somehow install it on your psp? I want to get to 1.5 then I'll worry about what I want to do next.

if you don't want to physically modify anything, then you would need a custom firmware psp.

there is an easy installer for the magic memory stick, it's no problem. the actual problem is the battery itself. you can perform a physical mod to make it pandora's battery, but if you mess up, it's a permanent pandora's battery.

also, it's illegal to take the files off another person's magic memory stick. it's uses sony files. that's why it's best to make your own with a custom firmware psp.

How would you "physically mod" the battery?

I thought most of the stuff talked about on here was illegal anyway.

You telling me I cant downgrade my 3.71 w/o someone elses psp?

I appreciate you helping me and I have tried reading around...just so you know.

physically modding the battery would require opening the battery casing, removing a pin from a chip.

not everything we talk about is illegal. it's actually a grey area. it's up to the person to choose what to do.

you can downgrade your 3.71, but you have to mod the battery. don't want to do that, then you'll have to find someone with pandora's battery, or make one. that's why most members will tell you to find someone with a custom firmware psp, or to send it to a reputable person.

Lets say I want to make one out of mine. Keep in mind I have one psp, two memory sticks, and one battery. Now what?

your battery - you will have to open the casing and cut a pin, or desolder the pin if you want to reuse the battery

go HERE to see what pin to remove

memory stick - use the easy installer. you will need another way to connect your memory stick to your pc, as your psp is not custom firmware. copying and pasting files will not work. it has to be installed onto the memory stick.

Basically, even though I can copy and paste things on my memory stick, it still won't work because the programs "run through" the firmware first and not just the memory "independently"?

I looked at your link, that sh!t looks deep. Maybe I'd be better off finding someone in person who has already downgraded, to basically do it for me, huh?

partially, the firmware is in play because your psp cannot run unsigned code. also, it has to be installed onto the memory stick.

when you run the easy installer or the pandora installer on the psp, it requires a logical format of the memory stick; it deep cleans the memory stick. after the format, you run the installer. the installer takes the 1.50 firmware, and creates a initial program load file. (ipl) for the memory stick. after the ipl is created, it has to be installed on the memory stick. when it's installed, it's basically locked onto the memory stick, meaning that it will only run on that memory stick.

the best thing is to look and see if your friends or cousins have a psp that has custom firmware, or that has 3.50 firmware. 3.50 is the last firmware to have a game exploit. you will need to find a copy of lumines and download the downgrader.

In conclusion, I'm screwed w/o another person who has already downgraded? Just making sure...there's no way I can downgrade by myself-legally or ilegally w/o physicaly modding the battery?

there is the datel tool battery, but i haven't seen them in stores. why pay for something that can be made for free? you might as well get a high capacity battery instead.

I guess this ends my quest to downgrade...for now. I'll have to put up with Sony's bullsh!t for now, but I wanna say thank you. Maybe I'll be back someday. Peace...friend.

it's not over yet. we've only went through doing it yourself. there are other people who are willing to downgrade your psp, either for free or a small fee.

go HERE and HERE to see if there's a person near you. depending on what they do, you either meet in person or send it in to them.
