I'm a newbie here. I am having problems burning my dvds on pioneer DVR106D burner.I installed the Pioneer DVR106D DVD burner in a USB 2.0 enclosure. I tried to make a backup of my DVD using DVD shrnk 2.3 to shrink down the dvd size. Then I used Nero 6.000 to burn the DVD. Eveything seemed ok during the burning process until the last stage, I got a message saying "Fail to write the DVD". I just wonder if anyone here has encountered the same problem. Please kindly advise.

Well probably your problem has to do with the USB 2.0 enclosure. I suggest you install your drive inside your case if that is possible.
Now about your problem, try burning at a lower speed like 2x. Also if you have Nero 6.0.0.0 get a patch to update to the new version.
Also, try and tell me, does your drive writes OK CD-R discs?

Like #afonic said, it is to do with your USB2 connection. To make your drive more stable, install it within your PC on the Scondary Master position.
Make sure you have the latest ASPI drivers and all current software that you will use.
For further info, follow my guide using DVD Shrink to either Author (movie only) or copy (Whole DVD) to DVD +/- R(W)

Hey, thanks for #afonic's and Koola's advices. I will reinstall the recorder to see if it works. By the way, I forgot to mention that I got the "invalid address block" message after the burning process was finished. Do you guys know what does it mean? Please kindly advise.

Quote: invalid address block
This relates to your DVD Writer and Windows not being able to locate your writer properly.
Reinstall every thing and it should be ok.

Thanks for your help, Koola. I've reinstalled the recorder and everything works fine now. However, I'm still thinking turning the DVD burner into an external drive. Do you suggest to give another USB2 enclosure a try? Do you know any of it works good? I really need you guys' advice. Thanks.

You can give USB2 another go but there will be no difference in speed as USB2 and Firewire have the same speed.
USB is only better if you haven't any Firewire ports.
